From July 3-8, 2018, performers from around the world will gather in Orlando for a real-life “Pitch Perfect”-style competition to sing and crown the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 2018 World Champion of Harmony.

Having just celebrated 80 years, the Barbershop Harmony Society brings more than 30,000 vocalists from all over the world for its annual convention that celebrates youth choruses, senior quartets, mixed harmony ensembles, education, beginner vocalists and world champions.

The Orlando-based quartet Main Street is the current International Champion, and all members of the group have been part of Walt Disney World’s Dapper Dans over the years.

In addition, Tampa-based educator Debbie Cleveland, who was awarded Music Editor of the Year by the Barbershop Harmony Society and the National Association for Music Education, will direct Gaither High School’s Hurricane of Harmony youth barbershop chorus throughout the week. Cleveland will also conduct hundreds of men, women and children volunteers in the Everyone in Harmony Chorus.

Central Florida’s 11-member a capella group, Voctave, will participate in the Saturday Night Spectacular. Florida State College at Jacksonville will also be represented by their quartet On Point, as they will compete as a Next Generation Varsity Quartet.

Barbershop Harmony Society’s 2018 international convention is open to all ages. Check out the full week’s schedule here.
