At 2:26 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, about 20 sword swallowers will be participating in a worldwide event, “dropping swords” in Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditoriums all around the world, in celebration of the 5th Annual World Sword Swallower’s Day.

The Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI) founded the World Sword Swallower’s Day, which is co-sponsored by Ripley’s around the world. SSAI members hope to raise awareness about the art of sword swallowing, as well as the contributions that sword swallowers make to the medical field, including fund raising for esophageal cancer research and the Injured Sword Swallower’s Relief Fund.

The Orlando Ripley’s Believe It or Not! will welcome sword swallower Dan Meyer as part of the international event. Meyer will hold a free sword swallowing show outside the Odditorium, starting at 1:30 pm, with a finale at 2:26 pm. The Odditorium is located at 8201 International Drive and more information can be found at the Ripley’s site here.
