The Haunted Mansion’s recent upgrade seems to be complete. First the new interactive queue opened, then the animatronic hitchhiking ghosts reappeared, now the ghosts are back hitching a ride with guests, but unlike anything you’ve seen before. The new effects may just cause you to lose your head.
Fans were concerned when the part of the ride where the hitchhiking ghosts appear in your Doombuggy with you was replaced with digital projections of the ghosts just floating along in front of you, as seen in this video:
But that effect was just temporary, as many speculated. Today the projection curtains came down and the ghosts are once again hitching a ride with guests. The ghosts are still projections but they’re interactive. They may be sitting on top of your Doom Buggy, flying around you, place their hat upon your head, or blow your head up like a balloon. Here’s a look at some of the new fun:
It’s not known just how many different effects there are, but different things seem to happen if you’re riding alone or with others. Next time you’re at the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World, you should take the warning to “Beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts” a little more seriously!
If you missed it, here’s a look at the new interactive queue outside the Mansion:
