On Saturday, Aug. 6, Bok Tower Gardens will open its doors to four-legged friends during the first annual “Bark Tower Gardens’ Dog Day of Summer”. Leashed and friendly dogs will be welcomed to the gardens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 50 percent of the event’s proceeds benefitting the Humane Society of Polk County.

From 9 a.m. to noon, some “special friends” in need of new homes will be available, as well as tips about adoption, health, safety and dog grooming. In addition, there will also be doggie boutique merchandise available for purchase, as well as “Ask a Vet” and “Ask a Trainer” experts on hand to answer questions. There will also be contests for the cutest, most unusual, owner look-a-like, most talented and best kisser, with prizes awarded to the top three pooches in each category.

Regular admission is required, as well as $5 per dog, which includes a doggie gift bag. In addition to being leashed, all dog waste must be disposed of by owners.

The activities and vendors will be available from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • Ask A Vet
  • Ask a Trainer
  • Grooming Specialists
  • Doggie Boutique
  • Micro-chipping
  • All natural dog snacks
  • Dog Contests
