Magic Kingdom to serve alcohol for the first time ever with opening of Be Our Guest restaurant

For the first time in its history, alcohol will be served at the Magic Kingdom theme park during regular opening hours. But it will only be served at one location, the new Be Our Guest restaurant in New Fantasyland.
The Be Our Guest restaurant opens on Nov. 19. It’s part of the Beauty and the Beast area of new Fantasyland. Information about how the beverage choices fit into the theme was posted to the Disney Parks Blog:
“As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine,” says Stuart McGuire, Beverage Director, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “The wines focus primarily on France’s famous wine-growing regions, including Champagne, Alsace, Loire, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
“We’ll also offer the leading French beer, Kronenbourg 1664,” says McGuire. “And, staying in the general region, we’ll also offer Belgian beers.”
Beer and wine will only be offered with dinner and won’t be available to go.

No. Say it ain’t so.
I’m really sorry to see this happen. Even though I enjoy a drink now and then, I always liked that there was no alcohol at all in the Magic Kingdom. It made it truly feel like a family park that focused on children and the CHILD in all of us.

BAD IDEA as anyone who has visited Epcot during Food and Wine will know. And there is NO NEED for it.

I think the main thing to remember is that this will be alcohol in a controlled environment. They will be able to monitor how much a person has and will be able to put a limit on it if they feel they have had too much. While it is a shame that the Kingdom will now have some alcohol available, I am glad that it is being controlled.

I think this is a horrible idea. This is not what Walt wanted. I think he would be saddened by this decision.

I think everyone needs to calm down.
1) There is no “to go” option. Meaning there is no way to walk around the parks, drink in hand, the way you can in any park.
2) This is the only restaurant in the park that will have it.
3) This is very expensive wine and beer. It is priced as such to make it less enticing to have more than one serving.
To me what is more concerning than offering beer and wine in a sit-down restaurant with no possibility of ordering it “to go” is allowing facial hair on male Cast Members.
I have yet to find one male Cast Member who does not look unprofessional and unkept with facial hair. The management is not enforcing the neatly trimmed standards, along with the Disney look standards of the costumes. The image of a timeless, clean cut Cast Member is now gone and that bothers me more.

I’m not sure what to think of this. I don’t fundamentally have a problem with them serving alcohol in a controlled environment like this, but I just know there will be some inconsiderate idiots that attempt to take advantage of it. The way I see it, this will result in one of two things happening: 1) People will drink to excess, and we’ll have to put up with inebriated guests in close quarters in attractions lines and shows. 2) The cast members will serve responsibly, preventing guests from drinking to excess, and semi-inebriated guests will make a scene and complain because they’ve been cut off.
I enjoy drinking around the world at Epcot with my wife and friends, but the Magic Kingdom is another story entirely.

Bad idea. Some parents get aggressive and pushy enough trying to maneuver for parade/fireworks spots without them being even slightly intoxicated as well. Headache for other guests as well as cast members.

As a shareholder I think this is a great idea for obvious reasons. Most visitors to the Magic Kingdom, or WDW are not frequent repeat visitors, and do not understand the legacy of no alcohol in the Magic Kingdom. As long as there are no beer carts on Main Street I think we will be fine.

I think it’s about time they have a fine dining restaurant at the Magic Kingdom. Usually when we visit that park we leave at dinner time to go eat in Epcot (unless we have reservations at Chef Mickey’s). And to me it would seem ridiculous to offer the fine cuisine I’ve seen on their menu and not offer wine to complement it.
