Disney Springs update, seen from above, in Characters in Flight

overview

By Don Gworek

New buildings and features in the transformation of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs are rapidly taking form. Let’s take a ride on the Characters in Flight balloon and see what’s behind the construction fences.

bridge A new bridge is being built connecting the Rainforest Cafe and Lego Store areas. It’s interesting how the shape is divided into sections. It looks like it will be more than a boardwalk, and may have additional shopping or food and beverage.

north This area used to be the north end of Pleasure Island.

decking Over water decking is being built. Perhaps as outdoor cafe dining. The steel beams are forming a complex roof line!

stage A new outdoor stage and a new building.

mannequins It looks like the rear wall of a new building has formed. The large building behind it is the former Mannequins nightclub. Note the complex construction walls at the always busy Raglan Road Irish pub.

south Our construction tour continues to what was the hill of Pleasure Island.

8trax New construction at the former 8 Trax nightclub.

comedyWarehouse This is the roof of a former cast services building. The arrows point to a door and stairs leading down to the building. To guests, this large flat area was the top of the hill and viewing area of an outdoor stage.
The large open area at the top of the photo is where the Comedy Warehouse used to be.

adventurers There are no visible changes to the exterior of the former Adventurers Club and BET Club.

fountain The fountain at the AMC Theater is still covered, and still used as a temporary stage.

truckPark A park for food trucks is being built in this area.

parkingStructure The new multilevel parking seems nearly structurally complete in the section to right.

parking This seems to be a new overflow parking area. Yellow arrow points to the Miss Tilly boat at Typhoon Lagoon.

service This seems to be a new service building.

conclusion Stay tuned as we continue to watch Disney Springs take shape!

  1. Will there be a bridge from Rain Forest Cafe to Saratoga Springs? That would be nice as Saratoga Springs is my home away from home as a Disney Vacation Club Member?
