Dollywood opened new drop tower called “Drop Line” on May 6
In the midst of celebrating their season theme of “The Year of the Family,” Dollywood has announced a brand-new drop tower ride. On May 6, “Drop Line,” Dollywood’s newest drop tower ride, officially opened to guests after having a special sneak preview for the media on Friday.
Drop Line is nestled inside Dollywood’s Timber Canyon. The ride lifts guests more than 20 stories up, and slowly spins around the tower – which provides a great view of the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. However, at more than 200 feet off the ground, the guests will drop back down to the ground in a sudden rush.
“Drop Line is the perfect new attraction for Dollywood,” said Gene Scherrer, General Manager of Dollywood. “We have a number of unique rides, but this one is unlike anything else here. Our guests will have a chance to enjoy the beautiful Smoky Mountain scenery as they rise up the tower, but once they get to the top, the anticipation of the drop will certainly create memories they’ll remember for quite some time.”
Another ride set to open soon is “Whistle Punk Chaser,” which is situated adjacent to Drop Line, as well as the Thunderhead wooden coaster. Whistle Punk Chaser is a family coater full of twists and turns to bring excitement to guests young and old, as well as prepare the younger guests for the more intense rides in the park.

But this special year-long event doesn’t stop at Dollywood. Dollywood’s Splash Country also has a new attraction opening during “The Year of the Family”: TailSpin Racer, which opens on May 13. This attraction is a six-lane mat racing slide that will offer up some friendly competition the whole family can join in on to the finish line.
