The MOSI Rockets’ Red Glare Festival kicks off this Father’s Day weekend, June 17-18.

Guests will be able to get hands-on experience with American science for three weekends leading up to Independence Day at the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) in Tampa Bay this summer.

MOSI’s Rockets’ Red Glare Festival starts off June 17 and 18, and continues through June 24-25, and July 1-2.

Real rocket engineers from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on the opening day of the festival will be available for meet-and-greets from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will show guests how to design, build, and even set off their own paper rocket. The paper rocket launching activity will continue throughout the festival, led by the MOSI Idea Zone makerspace staff.

The festival will also include live demonstrations to give guests a look into what makes fireworks light up the night sky, as led by MOSI’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Team.

“Our giant summer experience Cardboard Space Adventures has been a huge hit, with families coming to MOSI and using their imaginations to explore and build a whole galaxy of ideas. This festival is a way to inspire even more of that creativity during the three weekends from Father’s Day through the Fourth of July,” said Grayson Kamm, Communications Director for MOSI.

Entrance to the Rockets’ Red Glare Festival is included with regular MOSI admission, as well as their summer exhibit Cardboard Space Adventures. This exhibit lets families create a space outpost  and “machines” made of cardboard, as well as explore an alien base and towering space station and playing a giant game of Space Invasion using cardboard game controllers.

Dads are able to get into the festival for free during its opening weekend for Father’s Day. From June 17 through the 18th, dads who visit MOSI gain free entry with a paid child’s ticket.
