Orlando To Be Site For New International Icon – The Great Wheel

picture-1.jpgOn Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 1:30 p.m., the Great Wheel Corporation, an international company headquartered in Singapore, Richard Crotty, Orange County Mayor, and Gary Sain, president & CEO, Orlando Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be announcing what will become an international icon that will reshape the skyline and tourism in Central Florida.

Orlando is the North American site for this new landmark, joining the ranks of gateway cities around the globe, including Beijing, Singapore, Berlin and Dubai.Project renderings will be made available at that time. The official site for the Orlando Great Wheel is located at https://www.greatwheel.com/orlando.htm, where renderings of similar giant wheels from around the world can be seen.

The Great Wheel is essentially a giant Ferris wheel, holding around 40 passengers per car and with a height over over 200 meters. No word as to the exact specifications of the Orlando Great Wheel just yet.

UPDATE: Orlando Attractions Magazine reader Ron Meissner sent us this link to the Orange County Property Appraiser’s web site showing the location of where the Great Wheel will be built, just northwest of SeaWorld, east of I-4, south of the Beachline Expressway (528), and west of International Drive. From that location, passengers aboard the Great Wheel will get a fantastic view of some of Orlando’s most fun attractions.

  1. Very interesting, look like the London Eye, but where will it be in Orlando and what will you be able to see.

  2. I was wondering the same thing. What will you be able to see? The London Eye is in the middle of the city, so it affords great views. The Orlando Gret Wheel appears to be set to show you an view of Shamu.
