The Gaylord Palms Resort made “Kisstory” last night when 448 couples smooched for 10 seconds under mistletoe.
During the “Kiss-Story in the Making” event, 448 couples set a new Guinness World Records title for Most Couples Kissing Under Mistletoe (Single Location). The previous record, held by Six Flags Over Georgia, was more than doubled, as they had 201 couples.
Under the watchful eyes of Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric, and one person helping monitor per 25 couples, the couples had to lock lips for a solid 10 seconds under individual fresh sprigs of mistletoe to claim the title.
“These couples helped to make history during this unforgettable attempt at the Guinness World Records title,” said Empric. “Congratulations and welcome to the Guinness World Records family!”
The attempt was sponsored by Experience Kissimmee. “We are honored and excited to be a part of this memorable experience,” said DT Minich, president and CEO. “There’s no better place to set a kissing Guinness World Records title than right here in ‘Kiss’immee, Florida!”
Before the epic smooch, the crowd was entertained by Christmas and other songs, sung live by vocalists. In addition, guests were encouraged to snap photos with the Mentos Yeti and Pure Fresh Gum Wallet Pack mascots.
“We are excited to be a part of this year’s holiday festivities at Gaylord Palms Resort,” said Sylvia Buxton, Mentos marketing vice president. “The Mentos brand is all about fresh connections. Nowhere is that freshness more important than under the mistletoe.”
Local floral designer Greenery Productions supplied the 448 springs of real mistletoe required to make the attempt successful.
