Star Wars ‘Force Friday II’ event will excite fans for ‘The Last Jedi’

With the global success of the original Force Friday back in 2015 and the upcoming film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Disney and Lucasfilm are teaming up again to announced Force Friday II, along with a special global augmented reality (AR) event called “Find the Force,” which will be held on Sept. 1, 2017.

This special event will commemorate the worldwide release of new merchandise and products inspired by the upcoming film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

“Find the Force” will be a pop-up AR treasure hunt that will unite Star Wars fans all over the world in a battle agains the Dark Side with a three-day event at over 20,000 retail locations in 30 countries. As fans go to these locations to pick up their “The Last Jedi” merchandise, they will have the chance to activate special AR experiences that feature characters old and new from the film.

“Force Friday II is a major milestone in the countdown to ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ Star Wars has always championed new technology, and we are excited that augmented reality will allow fans to experience the universe in a whole new way,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm.

From Sept. 1-3, fans can take part in “Find the Force” by downloading the Star Wars app, and then by visiting any of the 20,000 participating locations to find a graphic containing the “Find the Force” logo. Scanning the logo will reveal a character in the room using augmented reality, with 15 characters to find in total.

“Force Friday II puts fans right at the center of the action using augmented reality to bring our characters to life like never before. The technology theme continues in the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ product line, which is our most innovated yet – we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media.

New “The Last Jedi” merchandise will be released at Disney Parks starting at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 1, with Walt Disney World’s release location being World of Disney at Disney Springs.

Guests to World of Disney are encouraged to arrive early, as registration will begin just outside of the store on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. Guests will receive a numbered wristband on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once wristbands are received, guests can return to the store by 11:30 p.m., and line up in sequential order to wait for the merchandise release.

In Disneyland, “Force Friday II” will be celebrated at World of Disney in Downtown Disney. Guests are encouraged to pre-register on DisneyParksMerchandise.com now, and once registered, they will receive more instructions on when to arrive to purchase their merchandise. Doors to the location will open at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 1 for guests to enter and see what “Force Friday II” has in store.
