Welcome to another MagicBand Release Recap. It’s been a very interesting month with MagicBand related news, specifically around the Hocus Pocus Villains Spectacular release that was supposed to happen, but never did, as well as a Disneyland-themed MagicBand that was uncovered. There were also a number of new and interesting bands announced as well, including a Disney College Program band.
Star Wars Force Friday is a special merchandise event that happens before the premieres of the new Star Wars trilogy films. During this special event, stores across the globe open at 12 a.m. to allow eager fans to be the first to get the new Star Wars clothing, toys, and collectibles.
With the global success of the original Force Friday back in 2015 and the upcoming film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Disney and Lucasfilm are teaming up again to announced Force Friday II, along with a special global augmented reality (AR) event called “Find the Force,” which will be held on Sept. 1, 2017.
Some of the merchandise shown off at D23 Expo this summer have made their way to the Disney Parks. One of the most popular products this year was a new style of Minnie ear headbands, which include removable and interchangeable bows. [Read more…]

Sanrio and Universal Parks & Resorts have announced a partnership to develop Hello Kitty interactive retail experience shops at Universal Orlando Resort this year and in the future at Universal Studios Hollywood.
This will mark Hello Kitty’s official retail debut at theme parks in North America and offer specialty merchandise including stationery, home goods, apparel, accessories and collectibles. The majority of merchandise will be devoted to Hello Kitty; Sanrio properties Chococat, My Melody, Badtz-Maru, Purin and Keroppi will also have a presence. Hello Kitty confectionery and specialty co-branded Hello Kitty Universal park-exclusive products will also be available.
The Hello Kitty stores at Universal will also offer enhanced interactive retail experiences. Customers can shop for custom designed merchandise, enjoy photo opportunities with Sanrio properties, create souvenir versions of Hello Kitty’s signature bow, and even meet Hello Kitty herself.
“Our partnership with Universal brings Sanrio’s experiential entertainment presence to a new level,” said Janet Hsu, President and COO of Sanrio, Inc. “We look forward to this introduction into Universal theme parks to offer new connection points to Sanrio fans of all ages.”
There is no word on where the new retail experience will go. Currently there is a Hello Kitty merchandise cart located in Universal CityWalk (pictured above).
