Unwrapped Live

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has announced two free concerts this Saturday, March 12.

Unwrapped Live, a collaboration with Los Angeles-based Hidden Beach Experiences, features a band of players and vocalists performing contemporary jazz and new arrangements of hip-hop hits, melding in the sounds and styles of R&B, Latin and soul throughout. The concerts will take place in the Walt Disney Theater at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.

Both performances will be broadcast live on the Dr. Phillips Center lawn. Guests arriving after the theater capacity is reached for each show are invited to watch the live outdoor broadcasts.

The Unwrapped band features guest artists who reimagine hip-hop hits made popular by Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Wiz Khalifa, Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Nelly, Drake and many more. The band is lead by musical director, Hidden Beach recording artist Mike Phillips. Phillips has traveled around the world, performing with such artists as Prince, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

The roster of artists scheduled to join Phillips at the Orlando premiere engagement of Unwrapped Live are percussionist and vocalist Sheila E., composer and vibraphone player Roy Ayers, violinist Karen Briggs, producer and bass player Andrew Gouché, drummer Brian Collier, guitarist Yohei Nakamura, keyboardist Chris Turner and turntable legend DJ OG One. Additional artists will be announced.

An arts education component to this urban music experience will take place on Friday, March 11, engaging up to 250 Orange County Public School high school students.
