Videos and photos of multiple world record attempts by Cirque du Soleil cast
Five years after setting the first Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously walking on stilts, Cirque du Soleil tried to reclaim the title yesterday (June 16, 2009) at Downtown Disney in honor of its 25th anniversary.
In addition to that record attempt, two bike-riding cast members individually tried to break the record for most pinky squeaks in a minute and the most front wheel hops; and one cast member tried to get a new entry into the records for longest walked on stilts while doing a handstand.
First up were the stilt walkers. They started behind the House of Blues and walked to the side of the Cirque du Soleil building.
The stilt walkers included many cast members as well as some locals. Some were dressed in street clothes, and others came dressed in festive attire.
In total, 119 made the walk on stiltsin Orlando. But Orlando was just one of the many cities worldwide made the attempt to break the standing Guinness World Record of 625 participants. There were a combined total of more than 1,300 people attempting to walk 328 feet on stilts. It may be a while before the record-breaking attempt is made official.
After the walkers had made their trek, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer proclaimed June 16 as Cirque du Soleil Day in Orlando.
Here’s a video of the walk.
Next up, Lance Trappe broke the record for the most front wheel hops. He ended up doing 108 in less than a minute. Here’s video:
After Lance was Marcos de Jesus who did 63 pinky squeaks in a minute on his BMX. The record was 58 in a minute. Not sure what a pinky squeak is? Watch the video:
Last was the Cirque du Soleil named Rokardy, who tried to establish a brand new record for the farthest distance walking on stilts using your hands. He walked 189 feet in a minute and 30 seconds.
