Walt Disney World now testing virtual queue system at water parks
Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay won’t be Florida’s first themed water park to offer an alternative to standby lines, because Walt Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach water parks are currently testing a virtual queue system through April 7.
A virtual queue allows guests to “save a spot” in the line for an attraction without physically standing there, so they can enjoy the wave pool or lazy river while waiting their turn on a slide. Current virtual queue testing includes Downhill Double Dipper, Slush Gusher and Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, and the new Miss Adventure Falls at Typhoon Lagoon.
The new virtual queue does not involve MagicBands, and can not be reserved in advance or online. The system works similar to the old FastPass, in that guests will approach the attraction and be given a return time; instead of a paper ticket, the time will be printed on a waterproof card attached to a wristband. When guests return during their appointed 15-minute window, they should experience a nominal wait before riding.
