The Wet ‘n Wild water park on International Drive will be closing for good at the end of next year.

This morning Universal Orlando announced via their blog that Wet ‘n Wild will close after Dec. 31, 2016. They have not yet announced their plans for the land or the slides and attractions in the park.

Universal recently announced they are building a water park on their property adjacent to the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Volcano Bay is set to open in 2017.

Wet ‘n Wild opened in 1977. Universal bought it in 1998. Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder wrote on the Universal Orlando blog, “… the groundbreaking spirit that has defined Wet ‘n Wild will continue in the development of Universal’s Volcano Bay, a next-generation water theme park that reimagines what it means to be a water park. We’re grateful to our countless fans and team members for making Wet ‘n Wild such a special place for so very long.”

  1. It’s the circle of life. In with Volcano Bay, out with Wet ‘n Wild. But, it is sad to see it go. For those who have been going to Orlando since the late 70s or early 80s, there are tons of memories created at Wet ‘n Wild. Back in the day there were not many options besides Magic Kingdom, Bush Gardens and Wet ‘n Wild. Today there are many people that have been to Orlando and probably have don’t really know the park.

Even being old and dated, it will be missed!

  2. Very sad to hear this, had a lot of fun in the park and can’t help but be sad as this seems to be the last “non themed” water park left in the area for grown ups! Will be missed
