SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Team recently used a crane to released Rita, the largest manatee the park has ever cared for. The 12-foot-long, 3,000-pound female was released into Blue Springs on Thursday, Feb. 26. Due to her immense size, SeaWorld’s rescue team had to utilize the heavy piece of machinery to lift and lower her into the spring.

Cypress Gardens, the small Winter Haven attraction built on botanical gardens and Southern Belles, has announced the new management that will reopen the shuttered park this spring.
Bill Sims, a long-time veteran of the Florida tourism industry, will manage the park, which is scheduled to open March 28. Cypress Gardens closed in the fall, promising to reopen with a renewed focus on its historic gardens and a relatively new water park that has been popular with locals. It is eliminating its carnival rides and roller coasters, as well as a zoo area.
He said Cypress Gardens will focus on quality and value – and will cut its ticket prices by about 40 percent. The Park will also offer a separate, less expensive admission for people who just want to visit the gardens.
As for the park’s furloughed workers, Sims said a portion of them will be recalled, although he could not offer a specific employment figure. Season pass holders will receive an extra four months beyond their expiration date, to make up for the months the park was closed, Sims said.

Here’s an updated look at the three new fast food restaurants going in upstairs at CityWalk. It looks like Panda Express, Moe’s Southwest Grill and BK Whopper Bar will all share the same space and seating.
The restaurants are located above Quiet Flight Surf Shop.
