Puzzle fans can relive the infamous 1962 Alcatraz prison break from the inside out at the first Madame Tussauds escape room in San Francisco.

Madame Tussauds in San Francisco will bring the world’s most famous prison escape to life in its new “Alcatraz – The Breakout” escape room, the first in the brand’s 250-year history. The experience will open Wednesday, May 23 on Fisherman’s Wharf, just one mile from the real Alcatraz Island.

In “Alcatraz – The Breakout”, players will follow in the footsteps of three Alcatraz criminals, Clarence Anglin, John Anglin and Frank Morris, who escaped from America’s most notorious prison. Guests play wrongfully convicted prisoners who get tipped off to the famous jailbreak by a sympathetic guard, and will get 60 minutes to find clues, discover secret puzzles, and crack the code for freedom before they’re found out. During the experience, you can also see a vintage-styled Clint Eastwood wax figure, ready for his own prison break as in the 1979 film.

“We’re thrilled to open Madame Tussauds first escape room here in San Francisco,” says Dalia Goldgor, general manager, Madame Tussauds San Francisco. “Inspired by real events and in the shadow of Alcatraz, our escape room, will be funny, educational and most of all, a total blast!”

Beginning Wednesday, May 23, “Alcatraz – The Breakout” will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The escape room is designed for groups up to eight guests who are age 12 and over, and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pricing starts at $125 per group of four people, up to $175 for a group of eight. All bookings are exclusive to your party; you will not be paired up with strangers.
