Aquatica San Antonio’s Taumata Racer opens on March 10.

Aquatica San Antonio’s newest waterslide, Taumata Racer, will make its official debut on March 10, right at the start of the spring break season in South Texas.

“Taumata Racer will be one of the fastest waterslides in Texas, combining competitive racing with the adrenaline rush of speeding downhill head first,” said Byron Surrett, vice president of Aquatica. “It’s a thrilling experience that families and friends can enjoy together and gives out guests another fun way to beat the Texas heat.”

Taumata Racer is a high-speed competitive mat ride, and features six riders racing down a steep hill, head first. Riders will be positioned in six side-by-side lanes, and fly around a 180-degree turn, and through a tunnel before going down the 375-foot slide and across the finish line in under 10 seconds.

The waterslide is located on the north side of the waterpark, and has a minimum height requirement of 42 inches.

Named after a famous hill in New Zealand, Taumata is short for the 85-letter Maori word “Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.” When translated, this Guinness Book of World Records word means: “The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who traveled about, played his flute to his loved one.”

The tropically-themed waterpark will open daily throughout the week of spring break in South Texas (March 10-18), as well as on weekends throughout the spring before beginning its daily operation on June 1.
