Busch Gardens Tampa to celebrate World Lion Day – Visit with a BOGO ticket offer

Busch Gardens Tampa World Lion Day

Busch Gardens Tampa will gather the pride to celebrate World Lion Day this Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015.

The international celebration brings awareness to the most iconic big cat in the world. Busch Gardens will be celebrating with special keeper talks, animal enrichment activities and lion-inspired festivities. As populations have declined sharply in Africa, the International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies lions as a vulnerable species.

Busch Gardens Will give guests the opportunity to learn how they can help with lion conservation. Plus, they’ll learn about the two lion prides and six lions that call the park home. All of Busch Gardens’ lions are part of the park’s participation in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.

The Edge of Africa Animal Care Team will be celebrating with guests from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with crafts and educational activities and prizes. Busch Gardens’ two groups of lions, the Simon Pride (Simon, Iris, and Rose) and the Kembe Pride (Kembe, Shaba, and Shtuko) will partake in some extra special World Lion Day festivities too. There will be special cardboard “animals” for the lions to play with, ice treats, and the their very own World Lion Day cake.

Since its inception, the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund has supported over 25 lion conservation projects in six African countries, totaling $320,000. The Fund is currently supporting five lion conservation projects in three African countries.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment is one of the World’s foremost zoological organizations and a worldwide leader in animal welfare, training, husbandry and veterinary care. The company collectively cares for one of the largest animal collections on the North American continent and has helped lead advances in the care of species in zoological facilities and in the conservation of wild populations.
