Here are all of the major attractions, theme park-related restaurants, shops, and resorts being built that you may want to plan your vacation around.
As with any construction, the opening dates may change. All of these have been announced or are currently under construction. These are not rumors, but confirmed projects. This list, sorted by opening date, is updated as new attractions, dates, and details are announced.
The Lego Movie World
The Lego Movie World will feature three new rides: Unikitty’s Disco Drop, Battle of Bricksburg and The Lego Movie Masters of Flight, which will take guests on a suspended ride aboard Emmet’s Triple Decker Flying Couch surrounded by a full-dome virtual screen, giving the sensational feeling of flying through a world created completely from Lego bricks.
Sesame Street Land
For the very first time, take a walk down Sesame Street and stop by the famous stoop at 123. Explore the inside of Hooper’s Store, then head for big fun at Big Bird’s Nest. With an award-winning parade, wet and dry play areas, rides, and an interactive neighborhood, it’s more fun than you could ever dream. Come play and learn with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby and all of their furry friends!
Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy
This new show experience will welcome guests to the world of Disney/Pixar’s “Cars” films, bringing them face to face with racing legend Lightning McQueen.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle
On this new attraction, guests will take an ordinary visit to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Science and Technology Pavilion at Stark Expo, where things suddenly take a turn as they are called into action. They will climb into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s state-of-the-art vehicles and engage in battle alongside Ant-Man and The Wasp as they fight Arnim Zola and his army of Hydra swarm-bots.
Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle
This new nighttime show will cast a spell of light, music and special effects, unleashing the darkest creatures and villains into the Wizarding World, including He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named himself, Lord Voldemort. Guests will have to summon their inner strength and courage to face this dark magic as it comes to life during the light display.
Jessie’s Critter Carousel
Guests can head over to this giant toy carousel featuring Jessie from the “Toy Story” films and saddle up on a whimsical snake, turtle, armadillo, bunny or other creature from Woody’s Roundup.
Island H2O Live!
This water park will feature nine different thrill rides, a 1,300-foot-long lazy river with beach entry, a 24,000-square-foot dual beach wave pool, a kids’ area, and a river raft ride for the whole family to enjoy. The park will use a new RFID wristband system that will allow guests to customize their experience, such as changing the music and lighting on select rides.
Wonderful World of Animation
As part of the 30th Anniversary of the park, this new projection show will use state-of-the-art technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey Mouse.
The Lion King projections on Tree of Life
The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will awaken in a whole new way to honor “The Lion King.” Starting Memorial Day weekend and appearing nightly through Sept. 30, projections on the iconic tree will feature music and animation paying tribute to the classic film.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Opening Date: May 31, 2019 (Disneyland), Aug. 29, 2019 (Walt Disney World)
This new area will invite guests to explore a never-before-seen planet in the Star Wars galaxy, complete with two new attractions. Guests can take the controls in one of three unique and critical roles aboard Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, guests can join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance – including a face-off with Kylo Ren.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
For the first time ever, guests will fly with Hagrid on a thrilling roller coaster ride that plunges into the path of some of the wizarding world’s rarest magical creatures. It will be Universal Orlando’s most highly-themed coaster yet.
Set to be Florida’s tallest launch coaster, Tigris will send riders through looping twists with forward and backward motion, drops, a 150-foot skyward surge, and an inverted heartline roll – all at over 60 miles per hour.
Universal Orlando guests can start their theme park day with a Studio 1A experience and catch up on the top headlines from that day’s live Today Show broadcast. The new cafe will feel as though guests are stepping onto the ‘Today’ show set, and offer a menu of specialty food and beverage options.
Located between the Rio Loco river rapids ride and Shamu Station, Turtle Reef at SeaWorld San Antonio will feature SeaWorld’s second underwater viewing area, where guests can watch turtles from inches away through a floor-to-ceiling, panoramic portal. Two new family rides will open alongside Turtle Reef – Riptide Rescue and Sea Swinger.
Gran Destino Tower
This tower will be the new main entrance point for guests visiting Disney’s Coronado Springs. The tower will add 545 new guest rooms, including 50 suites, and feature a two-story lobby. A themed table-service restaurant is also planned.
Inspired by the modern architecture of new NBA arenas, the state-of-the-art space will include interactive games and competitions, immersive experiences, a retail store, and an adjacent restaurant.
Calico River Rapids
Knott’s popular white water raft ride will undergo a major renovation to add new features to the attraction, including new animatronics, themed show scenes, a new story overlay, and dynamic water effects.
Universal’s Endless Summer Resort (first phase)
Surfside Inn and Suites will offer nightly rates starting at just $73 for a seven-night stay and $85 per night for a four-night stay in a standard room. The hotel will feature 390 two-bedroom suites that sleep six and start as low as $111 per night for a seven-night stay.
A limited-time experience, this nighttime spectacular will be set to classic Epcot tunes. The show begins with a spark of imagination that quickly grows into a spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and choreographed special effects kites.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
The first ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse will feature a new original story and theme song as it takes guests on a journey inside the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts.
This new gondola system will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four nearby resort hotels – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and the upcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Disney’s Riviera Resort
Inspired by the European grandeur Walt Disney experienced in his travels along the Mediterranean coastline, this resort will be the 15th Disney Vacation Club property. Reservations are now open.
City Works Eatery & Pour House
This lively eatery and pour house-style restaurant will offer a large draft selection of local, regional and global craft brews with a constantly rotating draft list, complemented by classic American cuisine with chef-driven twists.
Jurassic World: The Ride
This next-generation thrill attraction will introduce never-before-seen dinosaurs, enhanced storytelling, scenic design, a new color scheme, and state-of-the-art technology.
Guests will be able to visualize the exciting plans for Epcot when doors open on a new Experience Center. They will discover engaging and interactive exhibits that showcase the relentless innovation, energy and excitement driving the future of the park all throughout this unprecedented period of transformation.
“Beauty and the Beast” sing-along
A special sing-along of the classic Disney film, created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live action “Beauty and the Beast” films.
O Canada! update
It has been announced that the “O Canada!” 360-degree show will receive an upgraded film.
Dollywood’s newest land will feature 11 experiences for guests, comprised of six unique ride attractions, including a suspended family roller coaster called The Dragonflier; a 55-foot-tall Wildwood Tree; live entertainment; various indoor and outdoor play areas for families to enjoy; a new restaurant and more.
Supermodel turned entrepreneur Tyra Banks recently announced the construction of Modelland, a new ticketed attraction set to open in late 2019 at Macerich’s Santa Monica Place. The 21,000 square foot facility will bring a fantasy version of the modeling world to life through state-of-the-art interactive entertainment, creative collaborations, curated retail, dining and special events.
