Here are all of the major attractions, theme park-related restaurants, shops, and resorts being built that you may want to plan your vacation around.

As with any construction, the opening dates may change. All of these have been announced or are currently under construction. These are not rumors, but confirmed projects. This list, sorted by opening date, is updated as new attractions, dates, and details are announced.

Ice Breaker

Location: SeaWorld Orlando
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

Located near the Wild Arctic attraction, Ice Breaker will feature four launches, both going backward and forward, with the coaster culminating in a reverse launch that goes into the steepest beyond vertical drop in Florida – a 93-foot-tall spike with a 100-degree angle.

Iron Gwazi


Location: Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

This new coaster will be North America’s tallest hybrid, and the fastest, steepest hybrid coaster in the world. This new addition will be a wood and steel hybrid coaster manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, and will feature a maximum height of more than 200 feet tall. The coaster will offer all-new thrill elements, as well as use restored elements of Gwazi.

Space 220 Restaurant

Location: Epcot, World Discovery
Opening Date: TBA

An expansion of the Mission: Space pavilion, the new restaurant Space 220 will feature an out-of-this-world culinary experience with the celestial panorama of a space station, including daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up.

Cars Route 66 Road Trip

Location: Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Studios Park
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED)

This new adventure will replace the park’s Studio Tram Tour. Guests of all ages will buckle up for an entertaining road trip on the legendary Route 66 with the heroes of “Cars,” discovering natural and mechanical wonders.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Location: Epcot’s France Pavilion
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED)

In summer 2020, the France pavilion will offer even more for guests to discover, including the much-anticipated attraction Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, as well as a delicious new restaurant called La Crêperie de Paris.


Location: SeaWorld San Diego
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

Speeding at more than 60 miles per hour, this new coaster will be the tallest and fastest floorless dive coaster in California. Riders will dangle and drop at more than 150 feet before diving 90 degrees into loops – a tribute to the Emperor penguins’ journey from chilly cliffs to the depths of the ocean.

South Bay Shores expansion

Location: California’s Great America
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

The transformation of Great America’s waterpark will increase its acreage by approximately 50 percent from 10.5 to 15 acres,· nearly double the amount of attractions from 10 to 18,· double the amount of space to relax, and triple the number of dining options from one to three.

Boogie Board Racer

Location: Carowinds
Opening Date: Summer 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

On Boogie Board Racer, the longest mat racing slide in the Southeast, guests will ascend to almost 60 feet, take a mat and choose one of six lanes where they’ll wait for the green light to start their race. Riders will zoom through tubes, high-speed chutes and a 360-degree loop before a final drop leading into the splashdown finish line.

Universal’s Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites

Location: Universal Orlando Resort
Opening Date: March 17, 2020 (DELAYED)

This coastal-themed hotel inspired by breathtaking sunsets will join its sister property, Surfside Inn and Suites, in the destination’s all-new Value hotel category. With rates starting at $76 per night, Universal Orlando now offers a hotel for every style and budget, complete with exclusive benefits and a seamless vacation experience at the destination’s most affordable rates.

Cirque du Soleil: Drawn to Life

Location: Disney Springs (formerly Cirque du Soleil’s “La Nouba”)
Opening Date: March 20, 2020 (Previews), April 17, 2020 (Premiere) (DELAYED)

This first-of-its-kind show will celebrate the magic of Walt Disney Animation Studios in a touching story brought to life by Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Imagineering, and legendary Disney animators. It will combine Disney storytelling and heart with Cirque du Soleil’s signature artistry.

The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash

Location: Universal Studios Hollywood
Opening Date: March 27, 2020 (DELAYED)

This innovative adventure will blend live, dimensional and animated characters with hyper-realistic media as guests zip along a track aboard ride vehicles through bustling New York City streets towards the pet adoption event and the ultimate happy ending: forever homes. Along the way, guests will face an array of challenges and meet up with fellow animal pals eager to help guide them toward their destination.

The Lego Movie World

Location: Legoland California and Legoland Billund
Opening Date: April 1, 2020 (California) (DELAYED), DELAYED to 2021 for Billund

The new land in California will include Emmet’s Flying Adventure and Unikitty’s Disco Drop, as well as Queen Whatevra Wa’nabi’s Carousel. Also featured will be Benny’s Play Ship and a character meet-and-greet in Emmet’s Super Suite apartment.

Unique to Legoland Billund’s version will be a high-flying aerobatic ride aimed toward older kids. On this attraction, guests will manage their own aircraft and decide how much the plane should rotate.

Gangsta Granny: The Ride

Location: Alton Towers
Opening Date: Spring 2021

The first attraction in The World of David Walliams at Alton Towers, this attraction will invite guests to climb into a royal carriage as Granny and Ben enlist their help to pull off the greatest jewel heist in history!

Beauty and the Beast expansion

Location: Tokyo Disneyland
Opening Date: April 15, 2020 (DELAYED)

Nestled in an area of Fantasyland themed to the 1991 animated film, guests will not only get to explore the Beauty and the Beast Castle, but will also be able to peruse the nearby Village Shoppes and La Taverne de Gaston.

New Pirate Water Ski Show

Location: Legoland Florida Resort
Opening Date: April 18, 2020 (DELAYED)

The only Legoland Resort water ski show in the world, Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty, will close after a successful eight-year run to make way for a brand new pirate adventure on April 18, 2020 with skiing acrobatics, water stunts, pirate humor and more surprises.

Avengers Campus

Location: Disney California Adventure (formerly A Bug’s Land; Walt Disney Studios Park, formerly Backlot area)
Opening Date: July 18, 2020 (California) (DELAYED); TBA (Paris)

Guests can suit up alongside their favorite Super Heroes at the Avengers Campus. Both will feature the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature Spider-Man. The attraction will give guests a taste of what it’s like to have actual super powers as they sling webs to help Spider-Man collect Spider-Bots that have run amok.


Location: Epcot’s World Showcase
Opening Date: TBA

Following the limited-time run of Epcot Forever, the new nighttime spectacular HarmonioUS will be the largest ever created for a Disney park, celebrating how the music of Disney inspires people the world over.

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure

Location: Epcot’s World Showcase
Opening Date: TBA

Your favorite “DuckTales” pals are headed to Epcot. Through the Play Disney Parks app, guests will join Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck, Launchpad McQuack, Webby, and the nephews in search of priceless treasure. Travel around the World Showcase to discover unique destinations, mysteries, and maybe even a few thieves, villains, and supernatural guardians of ancient artifacts.

NBC Sports Grill & Brew

Location: Universal CityWalk Hollywood (formerly Tony Roma’s)
Opening Date: TBA

The new establishment will be located adjacent to the just-opened Antojitos Cocina Mexicana, and will reflect the excitement of NBC’s sports coverage. As far as fare, the restaurant will offer a fresh take on pub menus and a selection of regional and exclusive draft beers. Inside, there will be over 100 HD TV screens that will be broadcasting sporting events, live stream sports content, and in-depth sports coverage.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ restaurant

Location: Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Opening Date: TBA

Set to be built in Toy Story Land, this new table service restaurant will make guests feel like honorary toys in a Western-themed play set created from a colorful mash-up of fun, oversized toys and cardboard boxes.

M&M’s store

Location: Disney Springs
Opening Date: TBA

Located in the West Side area, this location will include classic M&M’s store moments like the Wall of Chocolate, characters, and a personalization experience where guests can create their own M&M’s to take home. In addition, the store will have new interactive features designed to engage and share.

Riptide Race

Location: Aquatica Orlando
Opening Date: TBA

Florida’s first-ever dueling water slide will send racers through tight loops and accelerations through both indoor and outdoor sections as they speed to the finish through nearly 650 feet of slide.


Location: Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Opening Date: 2020 (DELAYED to 2021)

The coaster will be located in the Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s Festa Italia village and will feature four launches and a top speed of 72.5 miles per hour – making it the fastest multi-launch coaster in North America.

Knott’s Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair 

Location: Knott’s Berry Farm
Opening Date: TBA

Inspired by the classic Bear-y Tales attraction, this ride will take guests on a journey through reimagined show scenes inspired by the original, which include the Boysenberry Pie Factory, Frog Forest, Fortune Teller Camp, Thunder Cave, and Weird Woods, leading to a grand celebration at the County Fair.

Mountain Bay Cliffs & Beagle Brigade Airfield

Location: Canada’s Wonderland
Opening Date: TBA

Canada’s Wonderland will take guests to new heights with their new multi-level cliff jumping attraction in their water park and new airplane ride for kids in Camp Snoopy.

Orlando Slingshot and Orlando Gyro Drop Tower

Location: Icon Park, International Drive
Opening Date: TBA

The Orlando Slingshot and the Orlando Gyro Drop Tower will be the world’s tallest slingshot ride and drop tower, respectively. The slingshot will tower at 300 feet high above Icon Park. Riders will be catapulted 450 feet into the air, nearly 50 stories up. The drop tower will take riders up above the park’s skyline, with the ride reaching 400 feet in the air.

Super Nintendo World

Opening Date: Summer 2020 (Japan) (DELAYED); TBA (Orlando, Hollywood, and Singapore)

Super Nintendo World will be comprised of expansive and multi-level environments filled with state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games

Legoland New York

Location: Goshen, N.Y.
Opening Date: 2021

The new park’s design will be built upon the models of the parks in Florida, California, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Germany, Denmark, Japan and Dubai. The New York park is set to operate seasonally, from April 1 through Nov. 1. In addition to the park, a 250-room hotel will be built and operate year-round. The hotel will immerse guests into a creative Lego world that will bring kids’ imaginations to life with themed rooms.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Location: Walt Disney World Resort
Opening Date: 2021

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will invite guests aboard the Halcyon, a starcruiser known throughout the galaxy for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. Onboard, they will stay in well-appointed cabins, experience onboard dining, make a planet-side excursion to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, and much more. 

Sesame Place San Diego

Location: San Diego, Calif. (formerly Aquatica San Diego)
Opening Date: Spring 2021

Sesame Place San Diego will be the second Sesame Place park in almost 40 years, and the first on the West Coast. The park will feature family rides, water slides, live character shows, parades and interactive experiences that will extend the laughter and learning of Sesame Street.

Universal Beijing Resort

Location: Liyuan Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing, China
Opening Date: May 2021

The seven highly themed and expansive lands at Universal Studios Beijing theme park will bring popular culture stories and characters to life. They include: Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers: Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Hollywood and WaterWorld. In addition to the lands, Universal Beijing Resort will include a signature Universal CityWalk Beijing entertainment complex and two resort hotels.

Disney Wish cruise ship

Location: Disney Cruise Line
Opening Date: January 2022

Reflecting the theme of the vessel, Rapunzel will grace the stern, representing her character’s wish to see the world. The ship’s three-story atrium is inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Location: Disneyland park, Mickey’s Toontown
Opening Date: 2022

The first ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse will feature a new original story and theme song as it takes guests on a journey inside the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts.

Studio Ghibli theme park

Location: Aichi Expo Commemorative Park in Nagakute City, Japan
Opening Date: 2022

Once opened, this Studio Ghibli theme park will house five areas themed to classic Ghibli films, including “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Spirited Away,” and “My Neighbor Totoro.”

Fantasy Springs

This newly announced expansion at Tokyo DisneySea will create the eighth themed port, inspired by a magical spring leading to a world of Disney magic and fantasy. The port will be made up of three areas that recreate the worlds of the Disney animated films “Frozen,” “Peter Pan” and “Tangled,” as well as a deluxe hotel with a one-of-a-kind luxury wing that is set to be the most luxurious accommodations ever at the resort.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter

Location: Tokyo, Japan (site of former Toshimaen amusement park)
Opening Date: 2023

Like its sister attraction in London, this Studio Tour will take guests behind-the-scenes of the Wizarding World with authentic sets, costumes and props from the “Harry Potter” films.

Universal’s Epic Universe

Location: Universal Orlando Resort
Opening Date: 2023 (DELAYED)

Universal Orlando’s newest theme park will feature its own entertainment district, restaurants, hotels, shops, and immersively-themed lands once it’s built. The park will be located on a 750-acre site near the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel

Location: Disneyland Paris
Opening Date: TBA

This upcoming hotel will be inspired by a New York art gallery, paying homage to the city that is home to so many Super Heroes in the Marvel universe – as well as the artists who created them. The hotel was originally scheduled to open in the summer of 2020, but a new opening date is expected to be shared soon.

Avengers e-ticket attraction

Location: Disney California Adventure
Opening Date: TBA

One of the iconic buildings in California’s Avengers Campus will be the Avengers Headquarters. The building will become the future entrance to a brand-new E-Ticket attraction where guests will fly alongside the Avengers in an adventure to Wakanda and beyond.

Tron Lightcycle / Run

The hit Tron roller coaster from Shanghai Disneyland will make its way to the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland in an entirely new area right next to the Space Mountain attraction.

Transformation of Epcot

Opening Date: TBA

As revealed at D23 Expo 2019, Epcot will stay true to its original vision while bringing timeless Disney storytelling to life with the magic of possibility. The park will be unified with four neighborhoods that each celebrate a unique aspect of what makes Epcot so special: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery.

Spaceship Earth revamp

Location: Epcot’s World Celebration
Opening Date: TBA (POSTPONED)

The iconic Spaceship Earth will remain a voyage through time as the journey transforms with new scenes reflecting the universal nature of the human experience. A new guide and all-new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.

New Pavilion

Location: Epcot’s World Celebration
Opening Date: TBA

A new pavilion will be the home base for Epcot’s signature festivals. It will provide a view of World Showcase and an ideal spot to witness the park’s nighttime spectacular. This three-level structure will have one of the most remarkable designs at any Disney park and will fast become a new icon for Epcot.

Dreamers Point

Location: Epcot’s World Celebration
Opening Date: TBA

Dreamers Point will feature lush gardens, a wishing tree, an interactive new fountain and a statue celebrating the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Location: Epcot’s World Discovery, formerly The Universe of Energy
Opening Date: TBA

Guests will ride on a daring adventure featuring the first reverse launch into space on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This thrilling, family-friendly attraction will feature a never-before-seen storytelling coaster that rotates to focus on the action, wherever it may be.

Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana”

Location: Epcot’s World Nature
Opening Date: TBA

Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” at Epcot will be the first attraction inspired by the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film. This lush exploration trail will invite guests to meet and play with magical, living water.

PLAY! Pavilion

Location: Epcot’s World Discovery, formerly Wonders of Life
Opening Date: TBA

In this interactive metropolis, guests will discover a city bursting with games, activities, and experiences that connect them with friends, family, and beloved Disney characters like never before.

Mary Poppins attraction

Location: Epcot’s United Kingdom Pavilion
Opening Date: TBA (POSTPONED)

World Showcase will welcome the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane, which will join the United Kingdom pavilion as an entirely new neighborhood.

Wondrous China

Location: Epcot’s China Pavilion
Opening Date: TBA

In the China pavilion, Wondrous China will take guests on a spectacular journey across China, filmed and presented in a completely seamless 360-degree digital format.

Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge

Location: Walt Disney World Resort
Opening Date: TBA

Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge is a unique hotel and proposed Disney Vacation Club resort drawing inspiration from the wonders of nature and artistry of Walt Disney.

Lighthouse Point

Location: Island of Eleuthera
Opening Date: TBA

Disney Cruise Line guests can look forward to a signature island experience that celebrates nature and the spirit and culture of The Bahamas at a new Disney port of call located on the island of Eleuthera at a place called Lighthouse Point.

Zootopia expansion

Location: Shanghai Disneyland
Opening Date: TBA

In addition to a major new attraction that blends storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring this favorite film to life, guests can expect immersive entertainment, merchandise, and dining options that can only be found in this mammalian metropolis.

Castle of Magical Dreams

Location: Hong Kong Disneyland
Opening Date: TBA

Drawing inspiration from 13 Disney stories featuring princesses and heroines, the castle will feature adornments like Snow White’s apple, Cinderella’s coach, and Belle’s rose. The castle will be a canvas for new entertainment, including a daytime show and nighttime spectacular, and will be home to a new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where children can receive royal transformations.

Frozen expansion

Location: Hong Kong Disneyland
Opening Date: TBA

The area will feature two attractions: a new coaster called Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs that takes guests on a winding journey through the kingdom, and Frozen Ever After, inspired by the popular family attraction in Epcot’s Norway pavilion at Walt Disney World Resort.

Walt Disney Studios Park expansion

This new plan will include a complete transformation of Walt Disney Studios Park, which will gain three new areas based on Frozen, Marvel and Star Wars, along with new attractions and live entertainment experiences.

“The Princess and the Frog” retheme of Splash Mountain

Location: Magic Kingdom; Disneyland park
Opening Date: TBA

Disney has announced that Splash Mountain at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida will soon be rethemed to “The Princess and the Frog.” The story of this attraction picks up after the final kiss in the film, as riders join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure (featuring music from the film) as they gear up for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.
