From Sept. 6 – Nov. 3, this year’s event will bring new celebratory elements, including a photo moment with the handcrafted Miguel puppet from “A Musical Celebration of Coco” at Plaza de la Familia, special Dia de los Muertos merchandise, food and more.

Disney California Adventure

Plaza de la Familia, a limited-time offering at the Paradise Gardens section of the park, celebrates Disney/Pixar’s “Coco” and the bonds of family. Guests visiting the area can enjoy an immersive celebration that features live entertainment, storytelling, folklórico dancers and mariachi musicians, along with Mexican fare and interactive experiences – like crafting colorful masks like those seen in “Coco.”

With “A Musical Celebration of Coco,” guests can watch as the lead storyteller Mateo retells Miguel’s journey to the Land of the Dead. Miguel will even make an appearance as a puppet, joining the troupe of singers and folklórico dancers performing to the sounds of the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas. This colorful celebration is performed several times daily.

New for this year, guests can take photos at a special meet-and-greet with Miguel, as he and his performer will appear between shows at a mural entitled “Recuérdame” (“Remember Me”). Named after the song from “Coco,” this mural depicts the themes touched on by the storytellers in “A Musical Celebration of Coco” and celebrates Miguel’s family – both in Santa Cecilia and the Land of the Dead.

Over at the Paradise Gardens Bandstand, guests can enjoy mariachi music and traditional songs performed by the Mariachi Divas and Mariachi Espectacular.

As for activities, guests can take photos in front of the Mexican “Árbol de la Vida” (Tree of Life) and a remembrance note on the Memory Wall to honor their loved ones. Guests visiting the Plaza de la Familia can also design their own paper “alebrije” (spirit guide) mask of Pepita or Dante.

The Mexican menu at Paradise Garden Grill will offer delicious bites like the traditional tamale plate, pollo verde wet burrito, pan dulce Conchita, and a special “Coco” cake.

Guests can find more Dia de los Muertos fun in Cars Land, as Ramone pays tribute to the holiday at Ramone’s House of Body Art. There, Ramone honors Doc Hudson with a traditional “ofrenda” display.
