First teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action ‘The Lion King’ makes its debut

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming live-action retelling of “The Lion King,” which roars into theaters next year on July 19, 2019.

Directed by Jon Favreau, this photo-realistic computer generated remake hosts a huge star-studded cast, featuring the talents of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric Andre as Azizi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari – and James Earl Jones returns in the role of Mufasa.

While the teaser trailer doesn’t show much, we do get a glimpse of the Pride Lands on the day of Simba’s birth, as all the animals come to see their future king. The iconic “Circle of Life” plays in the background, just as it did 24 years ago in the original animated film.

This is the first public look at the upcoming film, after the entire “Circle of Life” sequence was shown to panel attendees at the 2017 D23 Expo.
