With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge now open at Disneyland park, fans everywhere are scrambling to plan their trips to Batuu, AKA Star Wars Land – and with that planning comes a few questions.

Here you’ll find our F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) on all things Galaxy’s Edge – what to expect when visiting; where to eat in the land; information on the land’s two attractions and more.

UPDATE – 05/02/19: Reservations to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park from May 31 – June 23 are no longer available. Reservations are still available for those with a Disneyland Resort hotel stay.

When will Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge open at Disneyland and Walt Disney World?

Phase 1 of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened on May 31, 2019 at Disneyland park, and will open on Aug. 29, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Phase 1 includes everything except for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

When will “Phase 2” open?

We’re not sure exactly when Phase 2 will open with the Rise of the Resistance attraction, but Disney has said that both parks’ Phase 2 will open later this year.

Will Phase 2 include anything else besides the opening of Rise of the Resistance?

There are no officially confirmed additions beyond the opening of Rise of the Resistance for Phase 2 at this time.

Is there a separate fee to enter the new land?

No, there is no separate fee to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, Disneyland guests will be required to have a no-cost (free) reservation to enter the land from its opening on May 31 to June 23, 2019. Resort hotel guests will get this automatically; there are no more reservations available for non-hotel guests.

Starting June 24, Disneyland guests will have to join a virtual queue (if necessary), which is provided through the Disneyland app or at select Disney FastPass kiosks in order to enter the land.

Will I need a Disneyland park ticket in order to make my reservation?

From May 31 – June 23: While theme park admission will be required to visit the land on the date of your reservation, you won’t have to have already purchased your ticket to reserve your spot to visit Galaxy’s Edge. Just be sure you buy a ticket before the day of your reservation, or you won’t be able to get in.

After June 23: You will need your park ticket in order to join the virtual queue (if necessary) to enter the land. You can link your park tickets through the official Disneyland app, or use your park ticket at select Disney FastPass kiosks to join the virtual queue.

How does the virtual queue system work at Disneyland?

Starting June 24, guests wanting to visit Galaxy’s Edge can utilize a virtual queueing system, as needed, on the Disneyland app. Guests are encouraged to download the app before arriving and checking the app to find out if they need to join a boarding group to visit the new land. The boarding group will save you a virtual spot in line so you can enjoy everything else the park has to offer until it is your time to enter.

All you have to do is link the theme park tickets of everyone in your party together on the app to request the same boarding group for your entire party. To see which boarding group is currently being admitted into the land, check the app or digital signs in the park.

Be sure to turn on push notifications for the app, as it will notify you when it’s your group’s time to enter the land. You can also occasionally check the Disneyland app and digital signs in the park. You have up to two hours to enter the land after your boarding group is called for admission, so no need to rush over.

For guests who don’t use the Disneyland app, you can join a boarding group with your park ticket at select Disney FastPass service locations like The Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Will I need to make a reservation for any of the experiences in the land?

After June 23, yes. At Disneyland park, you will need a reservation to visit Savi’s Workshop and Oga’s Cantina. Guests wanting to book a reservation can do so on the same day of their visit, starting at 7 a.m. with a valid credit card.

Reservations for both experiences will allow access into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the time of the reservation, so you don’t have to join a boarding group (if they’re needed at that time) to enter the land.

Will a reservation be needed for Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World?

No. Once it opens on Aug. 29, 2019, all park guests may enter, unless it reaches capacity.

Will guests under the age of 3 have to have a reservation to visit Disneyland’s version of the land?

No. Guests ages 3 and older are required to have a reservation, but those younger than 3 will not be listed on the reservation and granted access to the land with your party.

Can I give my reserved spot to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland to someone else?

No. Reservations to visit Galaxy’s Edge are void if transferred or sold to another person. Unused reservations will be forfeited and not replaced.

How many attractions are in the land?

There are two rides for guests to enjoy – Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. However, Rise of the Resistance will not be opening with either version of the land and will instead come later this year as a “Phase 2”.

Why isn’t “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” opening with the rest of the land?

Per Disney, “We are pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology with these signature attractions and will not open an attraction until it exceeds our expectations. We also know the level of excellence our guests expect from Disney and we take that very seriously. There will be so much to experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and we look forward to the future epic opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance later this year.”

Will there be FastPasses for the two rides at either park?

Initially, there will be no FastPass+ or MaxPass+ reservations available for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run at Disneyland park or Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’re unsure if they will be added once Phase 2 of the land opens, or if they will be added to both attractions sometime next year.

What are the two rides like?

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is a simulator-type ride where you and five others will take control of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Once open, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be an advanced trackless dark ride adventure aboard a First Order Star Destroyer, where guests will come face-to-face with Kylo Ren.

What are the height requirements for the two attractions?

The height requirement for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is 38 inches; once it’s open, the height requirement will be 40 inches to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Will the rides offer a Bathroom Pass to guests needing to leave the line without losing their place?

Yes. Riders waiting in line for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run at Disneyland park will be able to obtain a Bathroom Pass if needed, and be able to rejoin their party at the FastPass merge area in the attraction’s queue. This offering will also be available in the Rise of the Resistance queue when the second phase of Galaxy’s Edge opens later this year.

There are no confirmed reports of this also being available at Walt Disney World just yet, though we expect to see it offered as well.

What else is there to do in Galaxy’s Edge besides riding the rides?

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be able to step into their own Star Wars story, experiencing the shops, dining locations, environment, and utilizing the Play Disney Parks app to interact with the land around them. Guests can also enjoy an immersive lightsaber-building experience.

However, starting June 24, guests visiting Disneyland park will have to make a reservation in order to take part in the lightsaber-building experience at Savi’s Workshop.

What characters could we encounter in the land?

Guests can encounter Chewbacca, Rey, Stormtroopers, Resistance spy Vi Moradi and Kylo Ren – as well as the citizens of Batuu.

Will there be “streetmosphere” performers strolling through the land?

Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, Vi Moradi and the First Order Stormtroopers are all roaming throughout Black Spire Outpost.

Are there any planned stage shows for the land, like Jedi Training Academy?

There is one “show” of sorts featuring Kylo Ren and his Stormtroopers at the TIE Echelon at select times throughout the day.

Will guests be able to make dining reservations in Galaxy’s Edge?

Starting June 24, guests visiting Disneyland park won’t need to make “dining reservations,” per se. They will, however, need to make reservations in order to visit Oga’s Cantina. No other dining location will offer this, as it’s not needed. You can take a look at the full menu for the land here.

What kind of food can we find in the land?

There are 5 restaurants and food carts in Galaxy’s Edge:

• Oga’s Cantina
• Ronto Roasters
• Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo
• Kat Saka’s Kettle
• Milk Stand

Each one offers its own unique galactic fare. Keep in mind that there is no table-service dining option in Black Spire Outpost – these are all quick-service or outside stands.

What kind of merchandise will be sold in Galaxy’s Edge?

There are 9 merchandise locations and carts in the land:

• Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
• Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers
• Droid Depot
• Black Spire Outfitters
• Resistance Supply
• First Order Cargo
• Creature Stall
• Toydarian Toymaker
• Jewels of Bith

Each offers their own unique wares, from galactic creatures to adopt, to handcrafted lightsabers. There’s something for everyone here.

Will adult guests be allowed to wear costumes in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?

Disneyland won’t change their costume policy for guests looking to dress up in Galaxy’s Edge. Visitors over the age of 13 will not be able to wear the Star Wars robes and other costume pieces sold in the land while visiting the theme park. You can check out what is and isn’t acceptable to wear in the land here.

No policy updates have been announced for Walt Disney World as of yet, but we expect the same rules as Disneyland to apply. Guests are encouraged to use Disneybounding to create their own Star Wars looks within the costume guidelines.

Are there any differences between the two versions of the land?

The two lands will be practically the same at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland park, save for a few differences in the lands’ layout. The Disneyland land will have three ways in and out of the land. The Hollywood Studios version will only have two.

Are there blockout dates for Annual Passholders?

If I don’t get a reservation to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will I be able to get access to the land at Disneyland park?

Yes and no. From May 31 to June 23, only guests with valid park admission and a no-cost reservation will be able to access Disneyland’s version of Galaxy’s Edge. There will be no standby line to enter the land during this time.

Starting June 24, however, guests will no longer be required to have a reservation to enter. Walt Disney World will not require reservations at all.

How can I guarantee that I can get into the land?

If you’re visiting Disneyland park, you’ll need to sign up for a no-cost reservation to enter the land on May 2. Guests staying at an on-site Disneyland hotel will automatically receive one reservation only per registered guest; those staying off-site will have to register for their reservation themselves.

For Disneyland Resort hotel guests, your Galaxy’s Edge reservation is linked to your hotel reservation. If you cancel your Disney hotel stay, your Galaxy’s Edge reservation will also be cancelled.

As for Walt Disney World, capacity is limited and there are no advance reservations or guarantees of getting into the land. Your best bet would be to stay at a hotel which offers Extra Magic Hours and plan on visiting during Extra Magic Hours days at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Will Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge be a part of Early Morning Magic or Extra Magic Hours?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will not be included in Magic Morning or Extra Magic Hours at Disneyland. However, the land will be open during Extra, Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Will there be any preview opportunities for Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World?

Yes, Walt Disney World will host previews of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Passholders. Capacity will be limited with these previews and admission will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. More info on this offering will be shared at a later date.

There will also be Cast Member previews, in which each CM can bring one friend along for the adventure. More information on these previews will be revealed at a later date.

Will a limited number of guests be able to get into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at a time?

Yes, Disneyland will have a limited amount of no-cost reservations to enter the land from May 31 – June 23. After that, it depends on the land’s capacity and the number of guests trying to visit.

Disneyland has developed a virtual queue system for guests to utilize when visiting Galaxy’s Edge. This new system will allow visitors to wander around Disneyland while waiting for their turn to enter the new land.

The digital system will be similar to an airline boarding pass, which will sort guests into groups that will be permitted to enter Galaxy’s Edge as the land empties rather than at specific times. Guests won’t see this virtual queue system until after the soft-opening period ends.

Will there be a time limit as to how long I can stay inside Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park?

At first, yes. The no-cost reservations for hotel guests will allow a time limit of four hours inside the land per guest. Guests will be required to leave the land once their reservation time is up; if you leave before your time ends, you will not be allowed back in.

However, starting June 24, there will no longer be any restrictions on how long guests can stay in Galaxy’s Edge. While entry into the land will be controlled through the virtual queue, guests will be able to leave whenever they choose through of any of the land’s three entry points.

Will Star Tours and other Star Wars attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios close or move after Galaxy’s Edge opens?

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will remain open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios after the opening of Galaxy’s Edge, as well as other galactic offerings like Star Wars Launch Bay, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” nighttime fireworks show, and “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” stage show.

When can I make my reservation for Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park?

If you’re staying on-property, you’ll automatically get a reservation for one visit during your stay. You will not get a reservation for every day of your stay.

What will parking be like at Disneyland for the land’s opening?

On May 31, the parking lots for the Disneyland Resort will open at midnight. Don’t arrive any earlier – you won’t be allowed to wait for the lots to open. If you have a reservation (which you will need to get into the land), then there is no need to arrive early, as you cannot enter before your specific reservation time.

Starting June 1, the Disneyland parking lots will open no later than 5:30 a.m. Parking is limited, so keep an eye on @DisneylandToday on Twitter for the latest parking updates. If you’re planning to take a Lyft or Uber to the resort, have your dropoff location set to Downtown Disney.

What will crowds be like when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens?

Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World are anticipating a high volume of travelers to Batuu for the first several months after the land opens. Be prepared for long lines and crowded walkways at first, and please be kind and patient with your fellow guests and cast members.

How will crowds be handled at both parks?

Disneyland Park will require guests to register for a no-cost reservation to enter the land from May 31 through June 23. Walt Disney World will have a limited capacity for the land, but reservations to enter will not be required.

Disneyland will allow guests to line up overnight before opening day of the land on May 31, and before the advance reservation period ends on June 24.

Will there be a grand opening ceremony?

Yes, but it won’t be on opening day and park guests won’t be able to attend. But there will be a #DisneyParksLIVE stream on the Disney Parks Blog on May 29 at 8:20 p.m. Pacific / 11:20 p.m. Eastern.

Will opening day merchandise be sold?

Yes, although some merchandise will only be sold inside the land, you’ll find merchandise celebrating Galaxy’s Edge outside the land too. You can find them at the Emporium, in the upper level of Launch Bay, Star Traders and Pooh Corner in Disneyland park; Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure; World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District; and in shops at the Disneyland Hotel. You won’t find these items in the land.

For those wanting Opening Day merchandise, including items for Annual Passholders, head to the Emporium, the upper level of Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Trader or Pooh Corner in Disneyland park.

Additional AP items outside of Disneyland park can be found at Elias & Co. and Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure; World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District; and in shops at the Disneyland Hotel.

Line-ups for merchandise will start no earlier than 2 a.m. on May 31, and parking opens at midnight. All merchandise is subject to availability and can be purchased while supplies last.

Disneyland will not be giving out any free buttons or anything opening day and there will not be any opening moment on opening day.

Will I need to wait in line to get into the land at Disneyland park?

You will need valid theme park admission and a no-cost reservation to enter from May 31 to June 23. If you have the confirmation for your reservation and ID, head to Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland up to two hours ahead of your reservation time to check in.

Will there be any Annual Passholder or DVC preview events prior to the official opening day at Disneyland?

There will be no preview events for the public to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge before opening at Disneyland. It hasn’t yet been decided if there will be any at Walt Disney World.

Will Club 33 Members have a preview event at Disneyland park?

While it could be possible, we have no information on any planned special events at this time.

What if I’m staying at a Good Neighbor Hotel or other location instead of staying on-site at Disneyland? What if I’m an annual passholder?

You would have had to sign up for a no-cost reservation to enter the land.
