Movie Review: ‘Toy Story 4’ will bring a tear to your eye

If you talk to any Pixar fans about “Toy Story 3,” they’ll likely say it had the perfect ending to the franchise and that they don’t know how “Toy Story 4” could possibly wrap things up any better.

While it’s true that the third film wrapped up Andy’s story, the new movie continues the toys’ story and is, truthfully, my favorite installment in the whole franchise.

Like any other Pixar film, “Toy Story 4” succeeds in its goal of pulling at heartstrings and making the audience cry. At our screening, nearly everyone was weeping and sniffles were abundant. Make sure you bring tissues, especially if you grew up watching these films, because that nostalgia will come back to haunt you.

The movie starts in a flashback to nine years ago, where we finally get to see what happened to Bo Peep between the second and third films. Then we flash forward to the present, where Bonnie is starting Kindergarten. She creates a new friend out of a spork and a few other materials during arts and crafts time, named Forky. This crafted spork is made of things that were meant to go in the trash so to the toys (and his) surprise when he comes to life, all he knows is that he belongs in the trash.

Bonnie’s parents decide to take her on a road trip and Woody decides that it’s his duty to keep Forky safe from himself and the trash can and, hopefully, convince him he’s more than what he came from along the way. 

I definitely think that Forky is going to be the breakout character of this movie. While he’s only in the last film of the franchise, he might be the character people think of right after Buzz and Woody when they think of “Toy Story” as a whole.

The film also fleshes out Bo Peep’s character and brings much more to her and Woody’s relationship. The new villain of the movie, Gabby Gabby and her Ventriloquist Dummies, is the best kind of villain; one with understandable reasoning and a fleshed-out backstory… but you’ll have to find out more about that yourself.

You can meet “Toy Story” characters and experience their world at every Disney Park around the world, but the best way to do it is at Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland.

“Toy Story 4” hits theaters on June 20, 2019 and is rated G. It truly is the best one yet, and you might want to bring some tissues. Check out the trailer below:
