Night of the Living Dead pop-up bar to open in Pittsburgh

This Halloween season, the creators of ScareHouse, a haunted house in Pittsburgh, Pa., are creating Zombie Den: Bar of the Living Dead – a pop-up bar that honors the 50th anniversary of George A. Romero’s cult classic, “Night of the Living Dead” and the zombie culture it inspired.

Inside the Zombie Den, living and undead guests will enter a bunker-like environment, designed to be a “safe house” for those seeking refuge from a zombie outbreak in Pittsburgh, which was the Ground Zero of the zombie apocalypse in the 1968 horror classic, “Night of the Living Dead.” Some scenes from the film were even shot in the basement of the Original Oyster House.

“We’re really excited to host this wickedly fun Halloween celebration, and to have restauranteurs of Mike and Brian’s caliber helping to make this an experience no one will ever forget – unless they’re undead,” said Jen Grippo, owner of the Original Oyster House.

Throughout the pop-up bar, guests will meet a group of survivors who staff the bar as they serve up cocktails and dark humor to match. The Zombie Den will be filled with emergency protocols, including safety signs, beacon lights, and tools that might be useful to those who wish to survive through the night.

Guests will be able to sip on cocktails inspired by zombie lore, like the tequila-based “Apocalypse Punch” and the rum-based “Zombie.”

“How often do you get a chance to drink with the dead?” asked Scott Simmons, creative director of ScareHouse. “The Zombie Den invites fright fans to raise a glass and toast Pittsburgh as the Zombie Capital of the World, before or after they scream their way through ScareHouse.”

Zombie Den: Bar of the Living Dead is scheduled to open on Oct. 3 in the historic Original Oyster House in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Market Square. On select nights through Nov. 3, the bar will host guests from all over in this apocalyptic experience, creating the perfect place to go for cocktails before or after a trip to ScareHouse.
