Peanuts’ Charlie Brown and friends headline new exhibit at the History Center

Kids of all ages will enjoy Charles Schulz’s interpretation of the natural world through more than 65 Peanuts comic strips and interactives that explain the weather, encourage recycling, identify North American birds, and offer lessons in drawing Peanuts characters at the new “Peanuts…Naturally” exhibit at the Orange County Regional History Center.
How many suns? Is the Earth flat? What kind of bird is Woodstock? Explore the “web of life” through Peanuts comic strips in this traveling exhibition from the Charles M. Schulz Museum opening on Sept. 29 and running through Dec. 31, 2012.

A Peanuts exhibit about nature wouldn’t be complete without the tree that always eats Charlie Brown’s kite.
In the tree are some birdhouses created by History Center summer camp kids.
Kids can try their hand at drawing Charlie Brown. (He’s not really a blockhead.)

Funny Folks Behind the Serious Business of Cartoons
Meet some of the creative talent behind the cartooning and animation industry. Join a panel discussion with artists who give life to cartoons, whether in the newspaper, on the television screen or in movies. Learn the secrets of how they make you laugh and how they make you think with their distinct styles and philosophies. Linda Gialanella, former weather report cartoon artist for Tampa ABC station WFTS-Ch. 28, will be moderating the event and will be joined by Jeff Parker, Mark Simon, Bruce Beattie, Rob Smith Jr., and others.

Snoopy’s K-9 Friends in partnership with SPCA
Enjoy a dog fair in the History Center’s Heritage Square park with special tips and tricks about caring for dogs and low-cost shots, training tips, and information about breeds, behavior, and doggie daycare, and then visit the Peanuts … Naturally exhibition.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free in Heritage Square park; regular museum admission to see the exhibition.

EcoCamp-In with Snoopy and Friends
The History Center hosts a night of environmentally friendly fun for the whole family on an overnight adventure that explores the “web of life” in conjunction with the Peanuts … Naturally exhibition. Families play games, watch a movie, and learn how we can all help preserve the environment.
6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Historical Society Members $10 per person; non-members $15 per person.
