Photo Update: Construction around Walt Disney World from above

Walt Disney World is under a massive amount of construction with the future bringing new hotels, lands, attractions, and transportation. These photos by Don Gworek, @bioreconstruct on Twitter, show in park and from the air progress on these projects.

Newest garage at Disney Springs finalizes dirt placement and prepares for foundation.

Disney Springs is currently adding a third parking garage to help ease some parking strain. The other two garages, Lime and Orange, fill up quickly during busy shopping seasons like Christmas. If done to the full extent of the land, it appears this new parking structure will easily be the largest parking area at Disney Springs.

Over at the Westside of Disney Springs, DisneyQuest is currently undergoing its demolition for the reported NBA Experience. The last day of DisneyQuest’s operation was July 2. We have a recap video on our YouTube channel.

At the early stages of construction near Caribbean Beach Resort, is the newest Disney Vacation Club location, Disney’s Riviera Resort. Current plans point to an opening date in fall 2019. It’s located near Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Hollywood Studios is the epicenter of major construction at Walt Disney World. Two new lands, an updated land, new parking, new transportation, and a hotel are all in the works.

Throughout all of Walt Disney World, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is receiving the most construction. Listed above are the numerous areas of change happening to the entrance and parking areas of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

  • E: New Hollywood Studios Entrance
  • S: Disney’s Skyliner gondolas station and route
  • B: Bus route improvements
  • F: Filled drainage canals
  • P: Parking expansion
  • U: Unknown construction area

Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios is taking shape as the Slinky Dog coaster strives ahead on its theming process. The Alien Saucer attraction has also started work on a roof.

Wood grain begins to be added to the oversized fence used as the backdrop of Toy Story Land.

Next to the entrance of Toy Story Midway Mania, demolition continues on the retired Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow attraction. This will be the main entrance to Toy Story Land.

The aging process begins in the soon to open Grand Avenue.

Over on the other side of Hollywood Studios, Grand Avenue is nearing completion. This area contains part of the old Streets of America and the Muppets Courtyard. It is being reimagined to present day downtown Los Angeles and will include a new eatery called Baseline Tap House

Grand Avenue will be one of two entrances into Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The entrance will continue through Grand Avenue turning in the concrete structure into Galaxy’s Edge.
The Millennium Falcon attraction construction can be seen here with the main circular structures being covered by a roof.

While Galaxy’s Edge still contains large portions of dirt, the two attractions are beginning to be covered up. The arrow above points to the new Cast Member costuming building currently under construction. The far right area across from the entrance road is believed to be the area for the Star Wars themed hotel

This wide shot showcases most of the in-park construction at Hollywood Studios. All is expected to be completed by winter 2019.

Throughout Walt Disney World numerous new projects are underway, with opening dates ranging from this fall to late 2021. Linked below are videos to many of the upcoming project currently in the works.
