Photo Update: Raptors brought into Velocicoaster construction

Recently, the rumored Velocicoaster construction had a large milestone with the introduction of raptors. While they are covered, it is easy to see these ravenous beasts in their new home. These photos, by Bioreconstruct on Twitter, let us get our first view at the raptors in their upcoming enclosure.

This rumors around this upcoming coaster have always involved raptors from the “Jurassic Park” film franchise. We are unsure if it will also involve Blue from “Jurassic World,” but it is highly likely with the recent changes to the Raptor Encounter next door.

We have talked numerous times before about the scale of this attraction and the many thrills it will contain. And recently, we spoke about the detail work, down to the smallest pebble. Now, with the introduction of these raptor figurines, we have even more to look forward too.

The placement of the raptors means that guests will be able to see them from multiple parts of the ride. From this shot alone, it appears guests could see them from two turns, once in the metal framework, and potentially on the aggressive turn maneuver the bottom of the photo.

Here we can see yet another view of the raptors. Due to their coverings and placement, it is highly unlikely that they will move. If they do, it should be minimal with the eyes and mouth – but with the high-speed and turn-rate of the attraction, they don’t really need to move at all. With onboard audio and swift turns, the motionless creatures could appear alive. This could be enhanced at night with lighting effects.

A week ago, we took a detailed look at rocks being built on this upcoming coaster. Since then, serious progress has ensued. We can see the rock tunnel shaping up quickly in from this angle. This coaster has numerous close encounters with rocks, the ground, and now raptors.

Bioreconstruct also got this shot of workers walking down a set of stairs. These are most likely stairs for use in the case of emergency evacuations from the ride. The coaster track is very close for normal use as an exit. And, there isn’t a visible ramp for guests using wheelchairs.

In this image, you can just barely see the tail of a raptor sticking out from the scaffolding and continuing construction. It will be close to opening before we should see the plastic come off of those figures. This angle also gives another great view of the continuing work on the rocks and steel.

In our last update, we also talked about the ride entrance. We still believe this large opening in the side of the building to be that. This different look helps solidify the idea of signage placement and the extended queue outdoors. The large opening seen on the far-left side of the image could be the exit and possible gift shop.

For those interested in the updates of the osprey nest, a tarp has been added on the track. This is to discourage more nests from being built. The humans have won for now, but life finds a way.

A close look at some of the beams reveals the signatures of some team members. Do you recognize any of these names?

With every new installment, we get close to an unknown opening date for this upcoming roller coaster. We just hope for an official name, opening date or even Universal Orlando’s acknowledgement of this ride construction.
