ScareHouse announces new haunt venue, The Scream District

This Halloween season, the creators of Pittsburgh’s haunt attraction ScareHouse will unveil a new concept: The Scream District, a single venue in the Strip District that offers two experiences, “The Basement” and the escape room “Stalked by a Killer.”

UPDATE – 10/22/19: Scott Simmons of ScareHouse has released a statement on the future of The Scream District:

Very regretfully, The Scream District will not operate as planned this Halloween season.  Despite the rapid response and support of city officials, contractors, and so many others, we have discovered additional issues that we are unable to rectify in time to open before Halloween.

Both attractions are complete and are incredible, but unforeseen issues will keep building renovation going through November.  This has been a painful decision. We are currently in the process of contacting all remaining ticket holders to fully refund your purchase. We can’t begin to thank you for patience during these frustrating weeks of delays and cancellations.

We also can’t begin to thank all of you who have reached out to our team with support and encouragement to our cast and crew, many of whom have been working on this project since June. But most of all, we can’t wait to thrill and terrify you within THE BASEMENT and our STALKED BY A KILLER escape room, which WILL both be opening for business later this year … because Halloween is never really over. And we like to think there’s always time for one good scare.

These experiences can be enjoyed separately or together during a single visit to The Scream District:

  • The Basement – Venture alone or with a friend into a realm that will fuel your nightmares. For this year, The Basement will feature more detailed sets to immerse guests into a horrifying space dripping with fear. This experience is open to guests ages 18 and older, and a waiver must be signed to gain entry.
  • Stalked by a Killer – The clock is ticking in this escape room, and it’s filling up with poisonous gas! You only have one hour to save your own life. You and your friends must solve a series of puzzles from the mind of a maniac. Stalked by a Killer is recommended for ages 12 and older, and guests under the age of 16 will require adult supervision.

Both experiences will operate on select nights through early November, though the exact opening date of The Scream District will be revealed soon.

Nearby The Scream District at Pittsburgh’s Market Square, ScareHouse and The Original Oyster House will team up to present Zombie Den, an immersive pop-up bar inspired by 1968’s “Night of the Living Dead.” Zombie Den will open at the Original Oyster House on Sept. 24.

“We want to bring something entirely new to Halloween fans this year, experiences that draw them into frightfully fun worlds that envelop them in ways that go far beyond a traditional ‘haunt,’” said Scott Simmons, creative director. “For loyal fans of ScareHouse and guests who are excited to do something different at Halloween, a visit to The Scare District is an evening they won’t forget.”

Tickets to The Basement start at $43 for a double ticket (admission for two people) and $32 for single admission. Tickets for the “Stalked by a Killer” escape room start at $27. Tickets for both attractions will go up for sale soon at ScreamDistrict.com.
