Site work begins on the Grand Floridian Resort expansion

Site work has begun on an expansion of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

The expansion is rumored to be a Disney Vacation Club location, similar to how Vacation Club has been added on to Disney’s Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary Resorts. Disney’s Grand Californian Resort has also added Vacation Club units.

What follows is a series of photos seen from the express monorail, perhaps the most common direction that guests will see the work site.

A video circling the work site, recorded before constructions walls went up, can be seen here.

Grand Floridian expansion site, last look before development

Something fun to do on your next visit to the Magic Kingdom is to try to spot Spaceship Earth at Epcot from the monorail. It can be seen when north of the Grand Floridian. However, Spaceship Earth is very elusive, only visible for a few seconds. Left to right above, arrows point to Spaceship Earth, the Hilton Bonnett Creek and a sky tower attraction at the Fun Spot Action Park that is just east of I-4 on U.S. 192.

Look in this area while riding the monorail – just a few seconds south of the tallest portion of the monorail track.
