New hand art vendor opens in Downtown Disney Marketplace

img_3251

A new vendor has opened up in the Downtown Disney Marketplace. Located near Disney’s Pin Traders, Hand Art Memories lets customers place their handprint on paper, then an artist transforms the handprint into a picture. For example, your fingers may turn into a pirate’s beard or a princess dress, but they don’t offer official Disney characters.

img_3252They have set designs to choose from but the artist can also customize your picture. They offer holiday designs such as Santa Claus and reindeer. They’ll have special designs for other holidays as well. The new business is run by Enjoy Your Face, the same company that runs the face painting booths in most of the Orlando area theme parks.

Hand Art Memories replaces a vendor that was selling angel art. Another long-time Marketplace business that offered wood carvings has also closed down. No other vendor has replaced their location yet.

fotm7.jpg

More than 150 award-winning artists who work in media from clay to wood, metal and mixed media to oils and watercolors – jewelry artists, painters, photographers, sculptors and more – will show off their works Nov. 13-15, 2009 at Downtown Disney during one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded juried art festivals, Festival of the Masters. This is the 34th year for the festival.

Besides the great art on sale, you’ll also see:

House of Blues Folk Art Festival — The 11th annual “Where the Art Meets the Soul” festival, featuring local and national folk artists, great music and captivating children’s activities.

Central Florida Chalk Artists Association — Watch as more than 6,000 square feet of sidewalk at the Downtown Disney Marketplace are transformed into a giant canvas for talented chalk artists to showcase their masterpieces. And kids can create their own works of chalk art in a special area.

Family Activities — Treat your family the world of art as they’re taught by experts how to draw some of their favorite Disney characters outside DisneyQuest. Families can take part in other art-related activities throughout the Downtown Disney area, and kids can boogie at a special DJ Dance Party at the Dock Stage every afternoon.
Meet the performers from Cirque du Soleil and enjoy face painting and balloons.

Additional Live Entertainment — Keep your groove going all weekend with live performances throughout the Downtown Disney area.

Festival hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are complimentary. For more information about Festival of the Masters, call 407-824-4321 or visit disneyworld.com/artfestival
