Now that Star Wars Weekends is ending, sci-fi fans can turn their attention to the coast as Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex launches Sci-Fi Summer, a celebration of the last 50 years of human spaceflight and science fiction. Many of the events this summer center around Star Trek. For its first visit to the Southeast, Star Trek: The Exhibition is now open. And if that’s now exciting enough for you, the Visitor Center is also offering a chance to win a trip – to space. [Read more…]
A new long-term exhibit recently opened in Innoventions at Epcot that will bring visitors face to face with the nanoworld.
“Take a Nanooze Break” features a series of interactive, continually updated displays that allow visitors to manipulate models of molecules, study everyday items at the nanoscale, and interact with scientists and engineers who conduct the latest nano research.
“The experience is immersive and gives guests a number of ways to view a world that is too small to see,” says Carl Batt of Cornell University, the lead researcher for the project. “It also gives guests a view of nanotechnology from real scientists”
Based upon the National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported children’s magazine and Web site Nanooze, the exhibition was developed with collaborators from Cornell University and Tamarack Design of Ithaca, N.Y.
“Nanotechnology will bring multiple, fundamental changes to the way we work to create goods, develop sustainable approaches, advance medicine and improve quality of life.,” says Mike Roco, senior advisor for nanotechnology at NSF. “About $80 billion worth of products incorporated nanoscale components in the United States in 2010, and one can envision mass use of nanotechnology by 2020. The Nanooze exhibition informs and inspires the public about this fast-arriving future society.”
The exhibit is in a former sitting area of Innoventions East near The Test The Limits Lab.

The D23 Expo was truly the ultimate Disney fan experience, bringing together tens of thousands of fans from all over the world with celebrities, executives, and even a few robots.
It has been five days since the Expo concluded and while we still have a few more bits of video to upload, we thought a summary of all we’ve reported from the mega-event would be useful for those looking to relive it or see what they missed.
We have posted a D23 Expo photo gallery featuring nearly 200 high-quality photos we took while at the D23 Expo, including presentations and walking the show floor.
Below are all of the videos we have posted so far, including the most talked about moment when actor Johnny Depp emerged dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow in front of thousands of screaming fans as well as the full Fantasyland expansion and Star Tours refurbishment announcements.

D23 Expo Podcast
In addition to photos and video, I have recounted everything I could remember about the four days I spent at the D23 Expo in Show #232 of my podcast, Inside the Magic. You can download it here.
The first-ever Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif. features a massive floor area featuring exhibits and booths covering all aspects of The Walt Disney Company. The biggest exhibit is from Disney Parks and Resorts, from which we’ve already posted a video and photo tour. Below are over 100 photos from the rest of the D23 Expo floor.
Fans can pose with characters like Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck in the middle of the convention center:
There is plenty of comfortable seating available in the middle of the D23 Expo floor:
A few months ago, we told you about The Sum of All Thrills, the exhibit that is coming soon to Innoventions at Epcot. The exhibit, sponsored by Raytheon, will feature Innoventions’ first ride in the form of a robotic arm simulator.
Now, we have received some concept art depicting what The Sum of All Thrills will look like (click the image to enlarge):
We had previously been told that the exhibit would feature four simulators, which this artwork confirms. Guests entering the Sum of All Thrills will design a roller coaster, jet plane, or bobsled ride using real-life physics and engineering and then ride it within one of the robot arm-based simulators. Below are sketches of the virtual vehicles featured in the attraction.
The Sum of All Thrills is scheduled to open later this year.
