Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby female reticulated giraffe on Monday, Jan. 27, 2012. At six foot, two inches tall and weighing approximately 176 pounds, the newborn is the calf of father, Jafari and mother, Cupid. This is Jafari’s second calf, and cupid’s fifth. [Read more…]
A baby female reticulated giraffe was born on Dec. 27 at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay. The baby weighed approximately 127 pounds and was 5 foot, 7 inches at birth. The mother, Tesa, has given birth to four other calves at Busch Gardens. [Read more…]
The 2009 Daytona 500 champion Matt Kenseth visited Busch Gardens Tampa Bay recently to test his strength in a tug-of-war with a bengal tiger and hand-feed giraffes on the parks Serengeti Plain.
Kenseth drives the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford for Roush Fenway Racing and is getting ready to defend his victory in NASCARs most prestigious race, the Daytona 500, on Sunday, Feb. 14. He is trying to become the first back-to-back winner of the Daytona 500 since 1995.
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s 65-acre Serengeti Plain is home to herds of giraffe, zebra, rhino, African antelope and many species of birds. Just as they do on Africa’s plains, the animals usually hang out with their own species. But recently, zoo keepers noticed an unlikely pair. Bea, a three-year-old giraffe, and Wilma, an ostrich, just can’t seem to get enough of one another. Best friends? We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
