Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that ‘Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter,’ featuring a holiday projection show on Hogwarts Castle like the one announced over a month for Universal Orlando, will be coming to the west coast park this year.
Testing has only recently begun for Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle’ projection show, which will begin nightly performances on June 23, but we now know that show will switch out with a Christmas themed version in time for the holiday season. The Hogwarts Castle projection shows were inspired by the one-time-only presentation created for the Wizarding World’s grand opening in 2016. (Note that the new castle shows will only feature projections and music, but no fireworks.)
As night falls on Hogsmeade village, the familiar sounds of Harry Potter music will resonate throughout The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Multiple times an evening, colorful projection mapping will illuminate Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with dimensional animations that melodically dance across Hogwarts castle in tandem to a musical arrangement from of the Harry Potter movies.
In addition to the projection show, Hogsmeade village will also feature festive décor uniquely themed to each of the individual storefronts, along with holiday-themed food and beverages including hot Butterbeer.

Today’s “USA Today” features a story on Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure and a map of the land. When you visit harrypotter3d.com and hold the map up to your webcam, it will appear 3D using a process called augmented reality.
But you don’t need to run out and buy the newspaper, Click Here to view/download a PDF version of the map, which you can print out.
Once the 3D map is loaded, you can turn it to see the “World” from all sides. Our top photo shows a top-down view of Hogsmeade. Notice how the Owlery is open in the middle.
You can also move the map closer to your webcam to get a better look. Below is the entrance to Hogwart’s Castle. Notice the pillars and statues on either side. Unfortunately the Dragon’s Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff rides are only represented by icons on the map.
The magical transformation continues. Although still very much a work in progress, the magnificence of Hogwarts castle is beginning to take shape above Hogsmeade as work continues on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Hogwarts will be the home of a thrilling, new, state-of-the-art attraction – Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – that uses ground-breaking technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced. Set to open in Spring 2010, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will feature multiple themed attractions, shops and a restaurant.
