Face coverings have been an ongoing focus of conversation as Walt Disney World’s four theme parks reopened last week with the requirement that all guests over the age of 2 (as well as cast members) wear face coverings at all times “except when dining or swimming.” This weekend, Disney updated their face covering policy with new language that specifically addresses mask guidelines while eating and drinking.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen claims of the dangers of wearing masks and the dangers of not wearing masks. One of the main claims against face coverings, other than discomfort, is the lack of oxygen guests may receive while being at a theme park all day. I took a pulse oximeter to the Universal Orlando Resort to see true results of what our blood oxygen saturation percentage was throughout the day.
Yesterday was the first time the Universal Orlando Resort theme parks re-opened to the public. I went with a friend, to enjoy the parks from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Universal Orlando, along with many other locations in Florida, require guests to wear face coverings in the parks. Here’s what we experienced wearing masks for almost 12 hours with the temperatures in the 90s most of the day.
