Orlando Eye’s inner wheel is complete, putting it on track for opening next spring

Orlando Eye inner wheel

The Orlando Eye observation wheel may look like it’s complete, but that’s only half the story. This week construction reached a major milestone with the completion of the inner wheel, clearing the way for work to begin on the outer portion. Next spring, guests will be riding the tallest observation wheel on the U.S. East Coast.

Orlando Eye completed renderingOnce the outer wheel is finished by the end of the year, workers can begin the installation of the glass capsules, and then work can begin on the electrical components. Once finished, the massive structure will have a height and width of 400 feet. (Artist rendering pictured here.)

“This is a really exciting moment for The Orlando Eye. From this point forward, construction will soon showcase the true height of the Eye at 400 feet,” said James Paulding, head of new openings for North America for Merlin Entertainments. “Work is progressing quickly, and we are on track for our grand opening next spring.”

The Orlando Eye will feature 30 air-conditioned glass capsules. Each capsule has room for up to 12 guests to enjoy a 20-minute journey around the wheel with scenic views of Orlando. Included in the Orlando Eye journey is access to a pre-show 4D cinema experience, taking guests on a full 3D aerial journey of Florida, with the added dimension of sensory experiences, including lighting, wind, spray and scent effects.

The Orlando Eye is the centerpiece of the new I-Drive 360 complex on International Drive which will house many stores and restaurants, plus Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, a skeleton museum and Sea Life aquarium. For more information visit officialorlandoeye.com.
