Otronicon is a celebration of interactive technology using video games to demonstrate the future of how we live, learn, work and play. The event returns to the Orlando Science Center this Friday, Jan. 15 through Monday, Jan. 18.
The event focuses on a few key areas:
• Larger than life video game experiences
• State of the art medical and military simulators
• Game design workshops taught by industry pros

Armor Games Skype Chat – Friday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
If it’s possible to find “art house video games,” Armor Games is probably the place to look. Check out the latest in independent video games, created by passionate enthusiasts that release new titles online almost every day. Enjoy a Skype live video conference with the brains behind Armor Games on Friday in Dr. Dare’s Lab!
Costume Contest – Friday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.
Fans of all ages, here’s your chance to show off that Master Chief costume or haul out those Mario Brothers’ overalls with a costume contest based on video game characters. Judges will be looking at the costume itself, the workmanship, design, and inspiration. This will be open to groups and individuals, experts.
Cocktails & Cosmos – Saturday, Jan. 16, 7 p.m. to Midnight
Enjoy Otronicon after dark with a rock and roll themed Cocktails & Cosmos. Enjoy music, cash bars, two fashion shows, deejays and more. The Crosby Observatory will also be open for viewing. This event is for guests 18 and up. Childcare is available for a small fee.
da Vinci Robot and Medical Sim City
Visit the expanded Medical Sim City and check out how Florida Hospital is breaking new ground in surgery with the da Vinci Robot, which uses remotely operated robotic arms equipped with minute surgical instruments. Get a rare opportunity to get up close to this amazing $1.7 million technology while it’s on display Jan. 15-17. Plus, see cutting edge medical simulators from Florida Hospital and UCF Media Convergence Lab.
Game Design Workshops
Learn skills from industry pros and hear about career options in this fast-growing high tech industry. Full Sail University hosts a series of engaging workshops that provide a glimpse at the technical and artistic skills behind videogame design. Industry experts will also be on-hand to share their experiences.
Brought to you by Florida Virtual School, Conspiracy Code is an adventure thriller designed to teach a full course in American History. As you play, you will develop a deep understanding of American History through in an espionage-themed adventure set in the fictional, near-future metropolis of Coverton City. In the game you must build your knowledge of American History in order to stop a vast conspiracy that is threatening to erase and change the course of history.
Hard Knocks Combat Arena
Far beyond laser tag, Hard Knocks is your indoor war – perfect for recreation, team-building, and more. The Hard Knocks combat arena adds a new visceral element to Otronicon, immersing its players in an intense game of cat-and-mouse using infrared weapons.
