The Main Street Electrical Parade made its return to the Magic Kingdom in early June as part of Disney’s Summer Nightastic and was supposed to end on Aug. 14 for the Spectromagic nighttime parade’s return. Today was the opening day for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Crowds were lined up early this morning to get their exclusive merchandise and Fastpasses to meet the visiting celebrities. Disney is holding a private event tomorrow at Epcot to “Celebrate Volunteers.” Some celebrities and Muppets will be in attendance. Celebrate Volunteers will also attempt to break a world record, but they’re not saying which one just yet.
At 2:30 p.m., the Muppets will lead a CANvoy Box Truck parade from the U.K. Pavillion towards Future World and around to the China Pavillion. Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato are also expected to give a concert later in the evening, possibly on the Fountain Stage.
Although the event is not open to regular guests of the park. You may be able to see some of the happenings from the open areas. But if you can’t make it to Epcot, you can watch a live announcement of the record breaking attempt beginning at 9:58 a.m. at www.celebratevolunteers.com.

Starting Jan. 8, 2010, Disney’s Honorary VoluntEARS Cavalcade will be coming through the Magic Kingdom (and Disneyland in California) each afternoon just before the daily parade. Muppets characters Kermit, Miss Piggy and Sweetums, along with parade dancers, will join special floats and vehicles celebrating volunteerism and presenting Honorary VoluntEARS serving as grand marshals of the parades.

To enable people to sign up for an eligible volunteer project, Disney is working with HandsOn Network, the nation’s largest volunteer network. Starting Jan. 1, 2010, guests can go to www.DisneyParks.com to search for volunteer opportunities available in their area through HandsOn Network and sign up for a day of volunteer service. Many of the opportunities will be for projects that entire families with children age 6 or older can participate in together.
