I was at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Monday to get some pictures of the new Toy Story 3 character, Lotso. (You can read more about him by clicking here.) But I figured while I was at the park I’d have a look around. [Read more…]
My family and I took advantage of Orange county schools letting out an hour earlier on Wednesdays to visit Epcot yesterday. It had been a few weeks since we’d last visited. If you followed @Attractions on Twitter last night, you may have already seen some of these in our Tweets. But there’s some new pictures here as well. Here’s what caught our eyes… [Read more…]
It was an interesting weekend at Universal Orlando. The highlight was the filming of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen was in Orlando to tape two episodes of her show, which will air on April 1 and 2, 2010. Above Ellen is shooting some T-shirts out to the crowd. On Saturday Ellen was spotted all around the two parks, including in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, filming segments for her show. The two shows were recorded Sunday afternoon.
This platform could be seen in the lake in CityWalk. Ellen shot a special version of the game “Know or Go” here. As you can see, the girl on the left didn’t know the answer to the question, so she had to go – right into the lake.
Just before the Know or Go game was filmed, some guy got the bright idea to swim across the lake towards Ellen’s stage. He was quickly pulled on this boat, and I assume, arrested.
Not much new could be seen in The Wizarding World since our last update. But I did notice some new trees have been planted back here. I assume these will eventually block your view of Hogwarts from the Jurassic Park area.
They’re trying to get everything in working order for the rush of guests this summer when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens. The Green Eggs and Ham restaurant in Seuss Landing hasn’t been open for years. And it wasn’t open on Saturday when I was there, but it looks ready to open any time now and I’ve read reports that it has been already.
Another long dormant building is open again. Mat Hoffman’s Aggro Circus was taking place in the theater in Toon Lagoon. The BMX, Inline skate, skateboard and motorcycle show will be shown daily for the next couple of weeks, then return this summer for a month.
I had the privilege to be in the Mardi Gras parade in Universal Studios Saturday night. It was a blast throwing beads and coins to all the guests. I’ll write more about the experience at a later date. I was on the King and Queen float. This is my view of the king and queen as one of their royal subjects.
A lot has been happening this week at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. It’s a scurry of activity all around as they’re putting the final touches and getting ready for opening. As you can see above, they’ve taken down the old construction walls and have added these “prettier” walls that have a wide door ready to open. There have been rumors of a soft opening any day now, but no confirmations.
Universal just released this video which offers a peek at some filming for the brand new Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey ride. They’re promising more details on the ride and an opening date announcement at noon next Thursday, March 25.
The Dueling Dragons roller coaster has been closed for a while but it’s reopening tomorrow, March 19. The entrance to the ride will still be back in Jurassic Park, and it’s supposed to still be called Dueling Dragons. It’s not known if it’ll close again before it becomes the Dragon Challenge ride.
This photo of a large model of the expanded part of Fantasyland has been appearing around the Internet this past week. It’s a bit different from the originally leaked blueprints of the redone Fantasyland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. The Pixie Hollow area has been moved back a bit and the Dumbo ride has been moved to just before the current Barnstormer ride. The blueprint also shows a pooh meet and greet area, which isn’t clearly marked in the model.
Neither the blueprint or this photo of the model were officially released by Disney, so there’s no way to tell which is the newer design, but logic says it’s the model. The model also fits along with the officially released concept art, which can be seen in the video below.
