On June 14, 1959, the ribbon was cut on Disneyland’s first major expansion: a special elevated railway known as the Monorail. Since then, it has become a Disney icon in its own right – one that warranted its own coffee table book, “The Disney Monorail: Imagineering a Highway in the Sky.”
The Walt Disney Company has honored their founder, Walt Disney, in many different ways throughout the years. His name and image still bears an important role in all things Disney. But there has never been an Audio-Animatronic figure of Walt Disney. Why not? Perhaps there should be.

The year is 1954, and construction for Disneyland park is in full swing. The many creative faces of WED Enterprises were hard at work so that it would reach its ambitious opening date in 1955. Scaffolders were placing finishing touches on the rugged cliffs of Adventureland, engineers were developing the precise movements of Abraham Lincoln, and Walt Disney himself was faced with a massive decision.
Due to the park’s opening date looming over Walt’s head, he was forced to partake in massive budget cuts to seize its arrival. Cutbacks were to be made throughout the park, and he was forced to consider opening Disneyland without the soon-to-be-famous Tomorrowland.

In 1918, emerging from the hillsides of Marceline, Mo., a young lad would choose to defend his nation and fabricate his age in order to enlist in World War I. The boy would serve as an ambulance driver for the Red Cross, and after the war, discover his true destiny in California. This boy grew up to be the man named Ray Kroc.
