The all-new DreamWorks Theatre will host the upcoming attraction, “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest.”

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced today that their all-new DreamWorks Theatre, featuring the attraction “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest,” will open on Friday, June 15.

Inspired by the film franchise, this new attraction will take guests on a journey that combines storytelling with state-of-the-visual effects to create an all-new and engaging experience.

Created and produced by Universal Creative and DreamWorks Animation, “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” tells the story of the morning of The Emperor’s Great Feast of Heroes, where dragon warrior Po sets out on a mission to deliver the Liquid of Limitless Power to the Palace, and enlists the guests to join him on his adventure filled with river pirates, raging rapids, magic, and of course, Kung Fu.

When it opens, this new attraction will introduce the first-ever integration of interior projection mapping that is designed to surround guests in 180 degrees of immersion. Developed by the team at Universal Creative, this never-before-adapted technology will showcase a series of visually dynamic scenic designs to transform the interior theatre space with the story.

Combined with seven Christie 4K Boxer Cinema Projectors and 360-degree surround sound, physical effects like water and wind will fully immerse guests in this wild adventure.

“Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” features an original score by composer Germaine Franco. The story begins in the pre-show section of the theater, where guests will meet DreamWorks characters who will kick off the attraction’s narrative. Then guests will enter the main theatre, and take a seat in the new plush, fully articulated seats that swivel and pivot alongside the 180-degree action.

The newly-constructed DreamWorks Theatre is inspired by Mission revival architecture, and reflects back to the Art Deco period of the Golden Age of Hollywood back in the 1920s. The building includes a box office ticket seller booth, and will be staffed by a three-dimensional usher sleeping on the job.

As guests travel past the ticket booth and through the outdoor garden to the theatre queue, they will see 36 movie posters that pay homage to DreamWorks Animation films. Inside the theatre’s lobby, more than 20 statuettes can be found on display, including a sampling of Emmys, Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice, People’s Choice, National Board of Review and Annie awards that DreamWorks Animation has earned from 2008-2015.

Guests will also be able to see original sculpted maquettes of the characters from “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest,” along with artifacts that embody magical powers that Po brought back from the Spirit Realm.
