Video: Disney World's UK sister city honored at the Magic Kingdom

The city of Swindon, England was officially honored yesterday at Walt Disney World when a plaque marking the twinning of the Wiltshire town with the popular Florida resort was unveiled at the Magic Kingdom.

The twinning ceremony was attended by Cllr David Wren, the mayor of Swindon; Angellica Bell, television presenter and competition judge; Duncan Wardle, VP Creative for Walt Disney World; and Rebecca Warren and her family. Rebecca is the creator of the winning Swindon nomination. You can read more about the contest in a story from the Orlando Sentinel Here.

A plaque marking the twinning can be seen in the UK pavilion at Epcot throughout 2010.

  1. I live in the UK and I can think of a lot nicer places the Magic Kingdom could have been twinned with. Swindon isn’t even a city, it is a town. To be a city here, a location either has to have a cathedral or be granted special city status. as in the case of Sunderland. It’s football team is called Swindon Town FC.
    I wonder if maybe there are not many places left here, that haven’t already been twinned, hence the reason it was chosen.
