Lego introduces magical new Harry Potter Diagon Alley set

It’s fitting that Lego introduced its latest collaboration with Harry Potter—a 5,500+ piece Diagon Alley set—on Sept. 1, since that’s the date when young witches and wizards return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for another school year (known to Harry Potter fans as “Back to Hogwarts Day”).

This new Lego Harry Potter set allows fans to build and create the magical shopping street where Hogwarts students buy their school supplies, one of the most iconic locations in the Wizarding World. After all, Diagon Alley is where Harry Potter gets his first glimpse into the amazing new world he’s about to join.

At nearly three-and-a-half feet wide, the set captures the street’s enchanted ambiance with detailed storefronts of seven famous Wizarding World shops. Inside each one, authentic features bring the Harry Potter story to life. Fans can even recreate some of their favorite moments from the books and movies, like being chosen by a wand at Ollivander’s, dropping in on Gilderoy Lockhart’s book-signing event at Flourish & Blotts bookstore, or purchasing a love potion from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.

Plus, the set’s modularity aspect allows fans to decide if they want to display the shops in a row, swap them around, or even place individual shops on different shelves.

“Diagon Alley is the biggest set I’ve designed to date, and I am really proud of how it has come together,” said Marcos Bessa, Lego Harry Potter design lead. “We tracked down different photographs from the sets—some of them from nearly 20 years ago—to make sure everything is spot on. I love how faithful the final design is to the architectural details in the film.”

The Diagon Alley set also includes 14 minifigures, including new versions of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and of course, Fred and George Weasley, who have their joke shop in Diagon Alley. There are also minifigures of ice cream shop owner Florean Fortescue and the Daily Prophet photographer, who have never been seen in Lego form before.
