‘Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole’ teaser trailer shows a dark and sinister take on a now public domain Disney character
In January 2023, Walt Disney’s creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, entered the public domain. This allows artists to create their own versions of Oswald and let it inspire their art. Now Oswald is entering the horror genre as we recently got a sneak peek of “Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole” showing the beloved character in a more sinister light.
Final casting is happening now while production is expected to begin this spring. The film is being directed by Lilton Stewart III and produced by Lucinda Bruce. Here’s a look at the official teaser trailer.
“The teaser trailer will give people a taste of the gruesome and nightmarish journey that takes the characters from an exciting adventure of finding themselves, to one they hope to make it out of alive,” Stewart stated. “Creating a new type of horror film that has never been done before has always been a dream of mine. I think the audience will be surprised at the significant differences between ‘Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole’ and other films in the spin-off horror space.”
The film will fall both into the horror and adventure genres. The teaser trailer sets an unsettling tone and tense vibe, promising a gory and menacing film. The trailer also features nostalgic cartoon music, mixing numerous genres.
The main character of the film is named Art. Art and friends will embark on a journey tracking down his family lineage. But this journey quickly turns into a nightmare when they discover his Great-Grandpa Oswald’s abandoned home. Art and his friends are transported to a place lost in time, shrouded with darkness, and inhabited by a sinister come-to-life cartoon Rabbit.
The film will be produced in partnership with Mana Animation Studio for animation, Tandem Post House for post-production, and VFX Supervisor Bob Homami.
