The Walt Disney Company has a long history of supporting the U.S. Armed Forces, military families, and veterans. Continuing in that tradition, the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command has announced that the annual Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games will be held in September 2021 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.
During the Warrior Games, hundreds of heroes from across the United States Armed Forces and allied nations come together to demonstrate their fighting spirit as they compete in adaptive sporting events that include wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, wheelchair rugby, and more.
In a post for the Disney Parks Blog, co-chair of Disney SALUTE Veteran Business Employee Resource Group, Cappy Surette, wrote that the DoD Warrior Games embody and celebrate the resiliency and dedication of wounded, ill, and injured active duty and veteran military service members.
“As a veteran of the United States Navy, I couldn’t be prouder of Disney for donating the venue and services for this inspiring event,” Surette wrote. “[It] provides an opportunity for families, friends, and supporters […] to see these incredible wounded warriors shine as they display their true warrior spirit through competitive sports.”
