’80 Years of Tweety’ celebration includes 80 murals around the world

Tweety first appeared in the 1942 Oscar-winning short, “A Tale of Two Kitties,”  and to celebrate the mischievous canary’s stellar career, WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences (WMGBE) has launched “80 Years of Tweety” featuring 80 Tweety-themed murals worldwide.

The “80 Years of Tweety” anniversary celebration kicked off March 11, 2022, in Austin, Texas, with the debut of the first group of murals. The campaign will continue throughout the year – and across the Studio – with new Tweety content from HBOMax and WarnerMedia Kids & Family and new themed experiences and collections from Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP). The celebration ends on Tweety’s birthday – Nov. 21, 2022.

“For 80 years, Tweety has marched to the beat of his own drum, inherently representing what it means to be unapologetically yourself,” said WMGBE President Pam Lifford. “As a key member of the Looney Tunes franchise, we definitely wanted to celebrate Tweety’s 80th in a big way, and are excited for the year-long celebration ahead. His endearing personality has made him a pop culture favorite, and he’s known for making appearances in the most unexpected ways.”

WMGBE collaborated with 16 artists who were selected across different countries, artistic mediums, expressions, ethnicities, genders, and sexualities to design tributes to the tiny hero. The 80 original public murals will appear in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, and more. All will be free for everyone to enjoy and will reflect Tweety’s history, personality, and of course, his signature yellow color, which will be the common thread across the designs.

The first mural unveiled this week at Austin’s SXSW was created by Kate Dehler, a local artist and lover of the tiny character since childhood. According to Dehler, she was inspired by memories of watching Looney Tunes cartoons and wanted her work to embody Tweety’s spirit and mischievous and resourceful character as well as the vibrancy and energy of the city of Austin.

Three additional murals can be seen in Austin, one in Burbank, Calif., and 30 more will appear in major U.S. cities over the next few months. Click here to track where to find Tweety murals.

Additional product drops will be unveiled leading up to Tweety’s birthday (including merchandise with yet-to-be-revealed mural designs).

Ugly Dukling Beauty and WBCP’s newest collaboration encourages fans to emulate Tweety’s trademark eyes. The Ugly Dukling x Tweety Bird Collection, a limited-edition box collection of luxury 3D magnetic eyelashes, features four classic statement style lashes named “Tweety Pie,” “Tweety Bird,” “Looney Luxury Lashes,” and “I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat!” presented in Tweety-themed keepsake packaging.

Loungefly has joined the celebration with two all-new, Tweety-inspired products: The new Tweety 80th Anniversary Plush Backpack with wings that move back and forth on the front zipped compartment ($80.00) and the Tweety and Sylvester 80th Anniversary Zip Around Wallet ($40.00). Both feature vegan leather and a Tweety 80th Anniversary lining.

Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment will be joining the birthday festivities with exclusive murals at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia, and Parque Warner Madrid.

Tweety continues to star in the Looney Tunes Cartoons animated series from Warner Bros. Animation on HBO Max. Plus, new episodes from the Max Original series will debut throughout the year to celebrate the beloved yellow canary.

This summer, Tweety will star alongside Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and other Looney Tunes characters in “Bugs Bunny Builders,” a new preschool animated series from Warner Bros. Animation coming to Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
