Adventures by Disney announce new European river cruise for 2020
In 2020, Adventures by Disney will offer more European river cruise sailings than ever before, including an all-new vacation on the Rhone River!
For the first time ever, guests traveling with Adventures by Disney will sail through southern France to places like Provence, a region rich with cultural, artistic, and historical offerings. During the Rhone River vacation, guests will get to explore ancient cities, hilltop villages, fairytale castle, romantic vineyards and more.
The Rhone River itinerary joins Adventure by Disney’s existing lineup of sailings along the Seine, Rhine, and Danube rivers. These vacations are all-inclusive and offer the service and amenities of Adventures by Disney and AmaWaterways, one of the leaders in luxury river cruising.
Each river cruise will feature the services of up to eight Adventure Guides, who are the hosts in each destination and onboard the ship. Adventures by Disney’s team of trip developers have created a line-up of active, hands-on activities and cultural experiences in every location, with plenty of activities designed just for kids and for adults.
Highlights of the Rhone River sailings include:
- Active sightseeing adventures – exploring towns and villages by bike; kayaking beneath the famous 2,000-year-old Roman aqueducts, Pont du Gard; and taking in the scenery of the Gorges du Doux by steam train and rail bike.
- Interactive culinary experiences – private truffle-hunting experience and tasting; cheese and jam making at a goat farm; and a tasting experience at a family-owned olive oil farm near Les Baux-de-Provence. Guests can also enjoy curated tastings featuring Rhone Valley wines, chocolate and more.
- Art-focused excursions – walking tour of Roussillon’s Ochre Trail followed by a painting class; a demonstration in the art of silk-weaving in Lyon; and a visit to the Carrieres de Lumieres, a former limestone quarry where famous impressionistic paintings come to life.
- Immersive historical tours – experience the stories of the Palais des Papes, the former seat of papal power; the Roman ruins of Lyon and Nimes; the hilltop villages of Gordes and Les Baux-de-Provence; and the 12th-century Abbaye de Sananque.
In addition to the Rhone River cruise, Adventures by Disney is launching three new Short Escape itineraries in Paris, Amsterdam, and Budapest, Hungary, which can be added to river cruise vacations or experienced as standalone trips.
The Paris Short Escape can be added to Seine and Rhone sailings. In Paris, guests can come face-to-face with the Eiffel Tower, and see the “City of Lights” from their seats at dinner on the structure’s first floor. Other activities include a private walking culinary tour and a visit to the Louvre Museum – which offers a local expert guide and an art detective activity for Junior Adventurers.
The Amsterdam Short Escape can be added as a post-cruise stay after Rhine River sailings. The itinerary is made up of hands-on activities, like a painting workshop after a visit to the Van Gogh Museum and a tile-glazing activity at an earthenware factory. Guests will also visit the Dutch windmills in Kinderdijk, set off on a canal cruise, and taste their way through the Jordaan neighborhood.
The Budapest Short Escape can be added to Danube Riber sailings. This itinerary offers cultural excursions, like dining on homestyle Hungarian cuisine at a historic bistro, riding in a tuk-tuk (motorized rickshaw), and seeing a performance at the Budapest Opera House. The trip also includes visits to the city’s must-see places, including Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Matthias Church.
