Rent Carl’s house from ‘Up,’ mansion from ‘X-Men’ on Airbnb Icons
The new Airbnb Icons collection features real-life rentals based on homes: the balloon house from Pixar’s “Up,” the X-Mansion, and more.
Carl and Ellie’s House from Pixar’s “Up”
As part of Airbnb Icons, renters can stay in a fully built version of the famous house from the Pixar movie “Up.” In the movie and here in real life, homeowner Carl Fredricksen has attached 8,000 balloons to the house — and it actually floats.
The Airbnb Icons “Up” home is located in Abiquiu, N.M. Take a look, and keep in mind these are real photographs, not Pixar screenshots.
The rental property’s info page was apparently written by Mr. Fredricksen himself. He tells prospective renters:
I don’t always like visitors, but I guess it’s pretty nice to have them now that it’s just me and Dug. So, come stay in my cozy home I made with my dear Ellie. My greatest adventures have happened here, and I learned that the best ones are always with someone you love, so bring your pals to kickstart your very own Adventure Book and watch as my house drifts off before you depart.

X-Mansion from “X-Men ’97”
Located in Westchester, N.Y., the X-Mansion is a cartoon brought to life. It’s based on the animated series “X-Men ’97,” and features living spaces and recreation areas with traces of its mutant residents.

Team Riley Headquarters from “Inside Out 2”
Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” takes place in Headquarters inside Riley’s mind, which also serves as the locale for an Airbnb rental opening in June 2024. The real-world location for the Headquarters rental property is Pagosa Springs, Colo.

“Inside Out 2” hits theaters June 14, 2024. To mark the occasion, Joy will begin meeting guests in Pixar Plaza at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 10. Joy currently meets guests inside the Imagination! Pavilion at Epcot.

How to Book an Airbnb Icons House
The price tag of these special Airbnb Icons experiences? A grand total of $0 for most of them. The few that cost money are all priced under $100.
Rather than being available for traditional reservations, Airbnb Icons rental properties are request-only.
To request a stay at an Airbnb Icons rental:
- Open the Airbnb app.
- From the app’s home page, find the Icons category.
- Select a rental property.
- Request to book.
- Cross your fingers for luck!
4,000 guests will be selected to receive stays in the various Icons homes throughout 2024.
