On March 19, more than 40 California AMCs will reopen—including all 25 locations in Los Angeles County and all 8 locations in San Diego County—with 52 of AMC’s 54 California theaters expected to be open by March 22, 2021. The company will resume operations at the remaining California locations once local and state approvals are in place.

“It was exactly one year ago that we closed all AMC locations in the United States [and] it gives me immense joy to say that by the end of next week we expect that 99% of our U.S. locations will have reopened,” said AMC CEO and President Adam Aron.

Included in the California openings are two theaters opening for the first time: the AMC Porter Ranch 9 at The Vineyards at Porter Ranch, which will open on March 19, 2021, with Dolby Cinema at AMC and AMC’s Signature Recliners; and the AMC Dine-In Montclair Place 12 in Montclair, Calif., which will open on March 22, 2021, with AMC Dine-In Delivery to Seat, IMAX at AMC, and Dolby Cinema at AMC. AMC Dine-In Montclair Place 12 will open with a limited menu and expand to its full menu on March 26, 2021.

As AMC prepares to welcome back California moviegoers, their highest priority is safety. Therefore, all theaters will follow the AMC Safe & Clean protocols that have already been implemented in more than 500 locations across the United States.

“As we have done at all of the locations around the country, AMC is reopening and operating with the highest devotion to the health and safety of our guests and associates through our AMC Safe & Clean policies and protocols, which were developed in consultation with Clorox and current and former faculty at the prestigious Harvard University School of Public Health,” Aron said. “AMC Safe & Clean includes social distancing and automatic seat blocking in each auditorium, mandatory mask-wearing, and upgraded air filtration, as well as many other important health, sanitization, and cleanliness efforts.”

In addition, extra time is allocated between showtimes to allow for a complete and thorough cleaning of each auditorium with enhanced hard surface disinfection of doors, handrails, recliner buttons, and tray tables. Plus, all theatres in California have been upgraded with MERV-13 air filtration systems, and all carpeted areas are cleaned nightly with vacuums equipped with HEPA filters, which are proven to trap 99.97% of airborne particles.

Moviegoers can also be assured that AMC’s policies meet or exceed all state and local seating capacity requirements. When guests purchase tickets online or at the box office, surrounding seats will automatically be blocked to ensure social distancing within the auditorium.
